Time has passed, I have spent a lot of time on this game [MR30].
I write this new, updated version of the review as of the release of The Duviri Paradox.

What I will comment on is simply just my thoughts on The Duviri Paradox, and not about the rest of the game.

But the rest of the game has a nice, intriguing story with great gameplay that will keep you hooked like it kept me for more than 5 years. If you disregard the """lore""" and really just the existence of The Duviri Paradox, you can enjoy a nice grindfest.

Going back to the review, this is about The Duviri Paradox, and I wrote my review like this as it appears this is DE's path forward, insofar as this downgrade of an update took many years and delays to make and it seems they were proud to push it to us in its current state.

It sucks. I'm not gonna spoil anything, I will just say:

1. There's been many questions. None have been answered.
2. The new gameplay is exceptionally janky.
3. The concept behind the new gameplay is senseless. The roguelite elements are also senseless. Half of it is rehashed old gameplay.
4. The story is a complete mess, is nothing but "wow, cool words!", and nothing of substance.
5. The audio and art are great, big kudos to the art & sound team.

The worst part of all? This took years to make. It was overhyped as hell. And they tried to pre-order merchandies for this.

Remember kids: Whenever you see a pre-order, you know it's gonna be bad.

A shame. I simply quit the game instance after I finished a "spiral". It really sucks.

I do not know who was responsible for this, but whoever it was, fire them.

Have you ever wanted to wait days, if not weeks, for things to advance?
Have you ever wanted to just do one thing at a time?
Have you actually wanted to play like a monkey, throw money at the computer screen, and still win against other players that actually know how to fly?

Then you're in luck, because VEGA Conflict is tailored just for your needs!

I swear I would love to make this ♥♥♥♥ up but the mechanics just got worse over time, some ship classes (Such as frigates and cutters) are now completely useless. You either only use battleships or cruisers (dare I say, cruisers are just if you don't have a full fleet of battleships) and or a carrier, or you can't do anything in this game... unless you paid for it.

Oh yes. When they introduced carriers, they basically made the entire game revolve around them. You either had a carrier, or you wouldn't be able to do anything to progress... unless you paid for it.

What are carriers? They're these huge ships that are slow and that have hangar bays which little squadrons of ships come out and deal obscene ammounts of damage at an incredible range, bigger than any weapons a ship may have, and you really can't do anything to a guy that has a carrier if you don't... unless you pay for it.

Notice a trend? Well, here in the void we have this premium currency, called "coins". You buy them with real money, or you get a "Commerce Module" which generates a very, very small ammount, infinitesimal really, of coins over a certain period of time.

"But, but how do I get a Commerce Module?"

Y O U P A Y F O R I T .

And it should pay for itself in a couple of months.

You heard me right. You pay for it with real money, because it costs coins, not regular common resources, and you can't trade coins, you can't earn coins (except for a very small ammount from the beginning quests, which are there just for show because you can't do anything with that ammount of coins). And you just wait and hope one day you'll not feel so bad about your investment.

Now what do you actually do with coins?

Well you can speed up essentially everything. In fact, if you have coins, you can pretty much win everything the game has to offer upfront. You can buy resources with coins, you can speed up build times and research times so that they're instantenous, you can build, refit and repair ships instantenously if you pay for it with coins, and really, you can do absolutely everything in this game if you just pay enough money.

Dirty? Scummy? Greedy?
Absolutely.

But does the Commerce Module actually help?

Of course not, silly you, Kixeye already thought of it, and that's just another money-making tactic from them. This is how they killed all their games in the past. They just keep doing it, because it works. I ♥♥♥♥ you not, people actually are willing to spend upwards of hundreds of dollars on this game M O N T H L Y . The top faction used to be "ICU" or "Iron Core United". The guys had no skill, but they had money, and they won wars and remained on the first place just because they would repair their fleets as soon as they were defeated by paying with coins and they won just because of sheer strength in numbers. They're no longer the top dogs now, and that might mean they got more than two or three brain cells left, and maybe they realised that spending money on this game is pointless.

How do I know?

I actually spent $5 on this, hoping the Commerce Module would fix things up.
It didn't.
It's ♥♥♥♥.

This game is one of the worst experiences you'll ever have, that is if you actually decide to play this game.

I speak from experience, as I played as soon as the game got out of its BETA phase. This, however, isn't only my opinion. Look at how "positive" the reviews are and you will see that this sentiment is common.

Early Access Review
To be honest, this game is not the best, but it is very good.
I like the fast-pace style of it, and the strategy aswell.
Solid 8/10.
