Early Access Review
Total Conflict Resistance is a rare sight - a game with pretty active development, and a lot less jank than what you would usually expect from a game with that label. It is accurately described as a mix between mount and blade combat and an RTS grand campaign. The videos shown on this page accurately depict the gameplay experience. Most importantly - I am confident that the developer is capable of realising their vision for the product, even if at current time I might disagree with some of the mechanics.

That being said, the game is not great at explaining how things work, so you will need to google or youtube some guides in order to know how to engage with the game to get the best experience out of it.

Still needs some mods to be playable, but there's a workshop now, so no reason not to buy it.

A great little indie game that has provided me with a lot of fun for what it is.
It has a lot of content to it and I find the art style charming, but you could probably see all that from the videos and pictures... What is important is the type of fun. This game will have you on the edge of your seat, as gladiators you have spent months training, equipping and leveling are sent on the arena to battle it out to the death again and again. It offers a lot of tense situations, options for micromanagement and play styles.

Cheaper than Warhammer...
Also more likely to gather the handful of people you call friends for a session on Tabletop Simulator than to organize them to meet each other at the same time in the same location in meatspace.

Because of all the reviews and the strange direction this game took after the first installment, I expected that I will be put off by the new mechanics and the existence of aliens of your team. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The game is definitely fun when it comes to gameplay, although it comes with the usual XCOM level of "quality" and the story really tries to explain and justify why you are running around with a bunch of aliens. Apart from that though, there is not much the story actually does. It is just a couple of cutscenes with a sequel bait at the end. In comparison to other xcom titles, the game definitely has a "cheaper" feel and there is noticeably less content, both in the game and in the workshop, so it sits where you would expect, in a sort of "spin-off" category. With all that being said, the gameplay itself is thoroughly enjoyable and I would recommend it, as it stands on it's own pretty well.

Well, now that Mount & Blade II is out, I feel we can all look to this game and reflect on what it did right and what it did wrong. For people, who don't have the desire or time to read my ramblings in their entirety, there is a TL:DR at the bottom. And if you scroll past that, probably more short and sensible reviews.

So... Warband. I would like to spare myself a description of what this game actually does, as there are tons of videos, reviews and content that answer that question. At the time I am writing this review, one legitimate question will probably be in the minds of most people, who dare venture into the deep, dark caverns of the steam review section to decide whether or no to purchase an old classic such as this: Is there any point in playing Warband, now that Bannerlord is out. And I would say that there still are many reasons to pick this one up. Of course the newer title is much bigger in scale, with much better graphics and a lot more features.

However, at least during the writing of this review, it is still in development. And even if this were not the case, the lifeblood of the game, it's total conversion and quality of life improvement mods are still in development. The truth is, even though Warband may seem old and dated, even to it's fans, now that they have seen the improvements and potential in Bannerlord, it is still the best and only place to play and immerse yourself in a world of your choosing. It can be fantasy like Lord of the Ring, Warhammer fantasy, Game of Thrones, or even Perisno and Pendor (Entire universes created by the modding community). It can be a historical setting like the Napoleonic wars, the Danelaw, The Crusades, Feudal Japan or even Pseudo-WWII. Or it can something entirely out there like aliens, lasers weapons, Star Wars and giant ridable tarantulas. And all of this can be explored trough the unique perspective that Mount and Blade provides. There is truly something here for everyone and anyone.

TL:DR - The game is still good even in the face of it's successor Bannerlord, because it has a lot of mods. Chances are it can offer you the unique Mount and Blade immersive experience in a setting of your liking.

I love this game! The fact that it manages to provide all that content for free is unbelievable. The game takes some time to initially "get it", as it doesn't play like most games out there. The core idea is to kick some ass and look as cool as you can while doing it. While there are certainly some challenging enemies to fight individually, the general feel this game achieves is that you are an unstopable force, completeing the objective as fast as possible and killing everything that stands in its way. The main drive is the loot and crafting, and there is truly a lot to be had there - you will need to get resources, craft weapons and warframes, search and farm for mods to make your items ever more powerful. There are clans that give you the ability to access and craft even more gear. Customization and decoration are also a big part of the game. You will need to spend some platinum, most notably for weapon/warframe slots and cosmetics, however you can trade blueprints and mods you've aquired for platinum, so you won't have to pay for it if you don't have to. All the stuff you buy with platinum is also reasonably priced and there are no lootboxes - you get what you pay for. If you decide to support the developers by purchasing plat, there are a lot of discounts, so you can get a lot of platinum for your money.

I won't lie tohugh, there will be some google-ing involved if you wanna understand this game - reading up on good places to farm resources, going on warframe market for easier trading, wathcing guides and builds for weapons. The movement system is something that you will learn gradually as well and it's by far the most important mechanic that makes or breaks the game.

Overall I recommend this game to everyone that is comfortable with having to put some work to understand how the game flows and all it's systems work together. And for those who aren't sure - might as well try it, it's free
