1,056 Hours played
At the time of writing this, I have nearly 800 hours in this game. Perhaps that speaks for itself. But if I had to give it a few more words:

BG3 has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time. It is not without flaws. Bugs still populate Faerun in great numbers, and the freedom to solve problems in a myriad of ways means there are occasional moments where the logic of the game strains under the pressure of your creative choices. But the latter is also why I love the game so much; it feels like a place where I can make it my own, and take part in crafting the story of my character.

My biggest gripes after several playthroughs:
- The game does not tell you that resting is a necessary way of progressing storylines and character arcs. Nearly every person I know that has played the game has mentioned that they missed out on a massive number of things because of this. The best fix would be a simple notification whenever a new camp scene becomes available. I hope Larian might add this by default, although modders have also fixed this by now.
- The pacing of the game feels off, story-wise. Without spoilers, the urgency created by the end of Act 2 makes the entry into Act 3 feel as though there is time pressure to reach the endgame; other than a few small differences in the outcome of some side quests, there is no actual consequence to taking your time in Act 3. It also feels odd to be doing so many side quests in Act 3 when you have world-ending stakes hanging over you, but this complaint is only a small one, as I love how big the world feels, and the breadth of content is part of that.

My biggest praises:
- The characters, with very few exceptions, are written with emotional depth and complexity. I am constantly impressed by the writing of this game, in little corner of the world. I have been brought to tears, felt sadness and heartbreak, laughed at the absurdity, and asked to think deeply about conceptual topics. While not every one of the companion characters completely vibed with me, I can appreciate that they are all written in a way that makes them feel rooted in the world, with their own opinions and feelings and experiences. If you are patient as a player, and give them time to develop, they all have storylines that are rewarding and often incredibly moving.
- The gameplay is endlessly entertaining, because you are given the freedom to re-spec your (and your companions') build whenever you wish. As someone who plays a fair bit of 5e, the game also feels like the best video game port that the ttrpg could hope for.
- Larian has proven they are dedicated to supporting and polishing the game post-release. The addition of the magic mirror, and later the new epilogue scene, was incredibly welcome. This game was created with love and care, and it shows.

For my final review:
11/10, you can pet the dog and owlbear cub at the same time <3
