I bought this game just when the 1.8 update came out. I am blown away. The setting is amazing, the gameplay is polished and fun, the RPG elements are fleshed out and almost dizzying in terms of options. Playerbase is strong, community is energized and the game has some real polish and shine. I am totally addicted to this game. I know this game had a rough launch but it really is coming into its own now thanks to the developer just plugging away and listening to the community. I was never a big fan of the so-called loot shooter genre, but now I'm converted thanks to The Division.

I bought this to support one of the best mod and asset creators who has given so much to the Cities: Skylines community already. I see this as a way to throw a bone to a person who has helped make this game the remarkable phenomenon it is. There are several other prolific creators in the community who'd get my $5 for a handful of special assets they might have worked on a little extra for a special DLC. I don't see this as putting a damper on the free mods. If anything, it might encourage more developers to aspire to get a chance to take a step in the spotlight and get some financial reward for contributing.

Consider this perspective: some revenue from this game is going to someone who otherwise has given a pile of free content to us and gotten nothing in return. How many people have toiled for hours for the benefit of a gaming, online or computing community for no reward over the decades? Maybe it's about time one of them get some financial reward.
