So idk. It's a fun game, I enjoy it, you spend a lot of time just kind of running around though, but it teaches you how to use a map and compass pretty damn well. haha. I still think it's fairly cheap so it might be a thing to pick up and hold off on it down the line, but it defintely is playable, I mean I still hop in and play every once and a while. I would be playing now, but my internet connection is kinda terrible atm, and so killing the occasional zombie is near impossible for me. Gotta get a new router first. haha.

Hahaha. Yeah, awesome pic. lol. As far as recommending Day Z..it's tough to say. In terms of the standalone it still is fairly rough. Zombies don't really work too well, but it's certainly been coming along (although slowly) I personally enjoy the standalone as I played the mod pretty heavily and I got used to a lot of the quirks of the game beforehand. I'd say the mod offers a better experience (although with a lot of really quirks due to the Arma II engine) while the standalone offers more gameplay things, but less overall quality. The standalone defintely has a lot more features being put in, like temperature and having to deal with humidity, and water boiling, and things like hunting and farming, but yeah. zombies are still super early atm, and there are practically no vehicles.
