I guess in short; Disco Elysium is the best art I've seen in in the category: videogames. It is better than loads of other art forms too.

Holy cow, this game blows. The degree of grind to beat the tutorial level . . . 9.5 hours played and I made it through the tutorial. That's it. I was interested because of beamdog support but yeah, this is a flaming pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, avoid and play paperclips for free if this is your style of game. decisionproblem.com/paperclips/

Wow. It took a second look at this game for me to realize how awesome it is. Obviously indie in terms of assets used, however what the developer has done with this game is something to be admired. The scripting for enemy actions is phenominal. I am a huge fan of strategy and role playing games, so perhaps it comes as no surprise that this game hit such a sweet spot for me. The game is what 2.5? years old as of the time I am writing this review and the game still has regular( and major with huge content changes) updates. This is the dream we all think we are buying into when we get an indie game. That lovely promise of continious updates and content additions from devs who listen to the community.
Just take a look in the community for this game, and witness how the dev is present on almost every single thread, and regularly takes ideas presented by fans and codes the ideas into the game.
Do you think something is broken or not working the way it should? Do you have a great idea to make the game play easier( ie: letting players reequip units with items after seeing the map) no problem. Let the devs know and in no time at all the improvement will make its way into the game. Not just the newest most expensive addition, but all the old ones too.
I cannot laud this game enough, Pull the trigger, buy it and give it a whirl. If the combat visuals are too dated for you then return the thing, but what are you doing looking at indie game reviews if visuals are more important to you than the beautiful underlying mechanics and emergent complexity from the rule set.

Good fun- good strategy- only space sim with carriers that are fun to use. Easily spawned for multiplayer shenangans. Buy this and enjoy.

Holy ♥♥♥♥ tits this game is awesome. While it may seem a bit steep to learn, I have found it actually a very simple experience. It is much more simple than almost all of the 'similar' rogues out there( adom,TOME, etc etc). The setting and story is a blast, I was seemlessly taken into this world and have lost myself in it. The game could be released as is and it would be better than so many of its competitors. Instead we see a weekly update with significant additions and changes. Mt goodness. If you think this might be a fun experience, get it. play it in windowed mode and follow a first time player guide for an hour or so. Then delve into the real game of making your own terrible and slightly better mutants and humans.

This is quite simply the best computer game ever made. If you are only just now looking at this game or have only played it a little in the past- I urge you don't go looking things up, merely dive into the world and enjoy the depth of this 17-19 year old game. The measly amount of hours that steam shows me having played this should not give you the wrong idea. From the time I Was 10 this marvelous gem has held a special place in my heart.

I am a long time fan of the Total War series begenning with the first Shogun sixteen years ago. I own every Total war with the exception of Atilla( even having purchased Napoleon despite the fact that it was originally advertised as a free LC for purchasers of Empire because of the terrible condition Empire was released in). In that last seven years fifteen total war games and sizable expansions have been released ( one of them being a free LC I believe as I don't remember buying the Imperator Augustus DLC to Rome 2. Of those I own only two were released in a usable fashion, Shogun 2 and Warhammer. While they still had issues they were not overwhelmingly noticable or impactful to gameplay.
So given the track record Warhammer was a last attempt with this company- and by god the early game in particular and the mid game as well are good! The late game suffers and this is definitly a Total War light experience with several core and complicated mechanics removed (presumably) to make the game more accessible.

Despite the positives which I can laud for this game I cannot bring myself to reccomend the game to others. I made a mistake in preordering this game. The company is time and again showing a general distrust and ineptitude that I can no longer forgive.

This brings me to my final note and the reason why I wrote this review- The dlc strategy of CA / GamesWorkshop.
The game released with a faction that had to be paid to use- on top of pricing the game at 60 U.S. Said faction (Chaos) is pretty lackluster as a horde faction with a lacking campaign that results in a hundred turns( or as high as two hundred) doing basically nothing preparing to invade the world at large with ai mechanics for the subjugated factions being... unpolished. This can be reduced by playing on a low difficulty but that should not be a neccesity for a faction.
Soon to release will be another DLC faction- A horde faction advertised as having unique mechanics- namely the greenskin/dwarf underway reskinned and no horde infighting. Amazing. A slew of reskinned chaos units ( some identical ) and an improvement to how the horde handles sacking and looting settlements which should have been included in the Chaos release. For 20 U.S. This is an utter dissapointment for me 1/3rd the price of the game within a scant two months after release for a reskin of an already dlc horde faction. Combined the two dlc factions ( forming fully 50 percent of the initial game race options) will cost 50 percent of the original asking price. 90 Dollars to play the game at full two months after release? Are you kidding me?
I am done CA - You have lost me as a consumer of your product - maybe MAYBE if in some steam sale they are reasonably priced I will go for it.
I find it much more likely that the combination of a poor sales strategy and customer interaction will result in a dwindling community- even those who would buy the game cheap because they enjoyed the experience of a stolen version will not be touching this mess.
