Edit: I'm now 3k hours deep and have a lot more to say about the game. PvE wise this game has a decent gameplay loop with lots of options. Lots of commendations and things to do for all you completionists out there.
PvP wise is both where this game shines, and also its greatest downfall. The naval combat is unparalleled. If you want to be a brawler and go into every situation cannons blazing, more power to you. If you want to sneak explosives onto another ship and blow it up from within, you can do that! Each ship type has its own unique playstyle and if you so choose, you can join the ranks of the sweats and try out the matchmade PvP gamemode of Hourglass. This is where the game falls. Hourglass hasn't been updated since the Season it was launched in over a year ago. Hit registration is piss poor at the best and the gunplay feels very clunky. Rare also has a reputation for very poor server performance, especially in areas of intense action (Like a PvP fight).

I love this game so much, and there is nothing else like it, but it does need a lot of work and it is rough around the edges. If you do end up playing it, be aware that SoT is a bug terrarium and you will find all sorts of things from silly little visual bugs that'll make you chuckle to game breaking bugs that end up sinking your ship entirely.

This game is really nostalgic to me.

Amazing game. Not much else to say. Get it if you enjoy destressing and cute animals!
