TLDR: For what this game is, it delivers a lot, but it's the type of game that may mean a lot to someone and nothing to another. If you don't like games that are heavily story based, do not buy this game! If you like a good, psychologically thrilling story, then you will love it.

"The hardest battles are fought with the mind, not with the sword"

I think that some of the reviewers of Hellblade may be missing the point. The actual gameplay is not the point of this game. The combat is simple, the puzzles are nothing very new. However, it's also one of the best usages of audio that I'm yet to see in a game and the renderings of Senua and her surroundings are so clean that it often feels as if you're standing right behind her.

Still, the most interesting part of the game is found in following Senua's journey through her mind. She finds that, despite what she thought, she has free will. She is able to overcome her "darkness," despite what her father told her and her mother's actions seemed to prove. That concept makes for what you would call a slow-burning game. As simple as it starts off, it gradually descends into complete madness as Senua braves her memories, which are often quite dark and disturbing. The game is very successful in pulling off that dark terror. It's never "scary" as much as it's painful. The voices in Senua's head aid in the creation of this pain in both Senua and in the player. Ultimately, not being able to trust your own thoughts and what you believe to be real proved much scarier and darker than any jumpscare ever could. The player can go deeper into this darkness, if s/he so chooses, through concentrating on certain objects that reveal more memories and Nordic mythology that delve deeper into the storyline.

I found the story to be both convincing and entertaining, but I can see that not everyone would like something like this. It's the kind of game that might not "click" for some people and may be the instant love of others. However, that's why we have different genres of games. This fits much better into a "story" genre than it would into an "action" genre, or even a "puzzle" genre. At some points it feels more like a movie than a game. Faulting the game for being "uninteresting" is probably proof that this just isn't your type of game.

Overall, I applaud Ninja Theory for doing something different and creating a game that works with an idea that often isn't deeply examined in video games. I always look foward to games that make an attempt at doing something different, it's refreshing to see concepts that differ from the stagnation in creativity that many mainstream AAA titles experience.

Nice little game. Love the artstyle. Hopefully, it won't become a meme.

God this game is so damn good. I'd like to say more and talk about how much I loved it. However, I doubt I'll add anything that 100,000 other people haven't already. So. Damn. Good.

Weird af game, but that doesn't justify a negative review. It's good in the sense that it's one of those games you buy on a sale and it sits in your library until you need something to do on a rainy day. I wouldn't pay full price for it tho, it's definitely not worth twenty bucks. Overall, it's funny in some respects and it's entertaining if you're really bored, but I wouldn't call it bad.

After logging over 40 hours on Assassins Creed Syndicate I feel that I can finally write a worthy review. ACS is the story of a brother and sister assassin couple who you get to switch between to play the story, which is an interesting way to play a storyline and, personally, I liked it a lot. This is the second AC series game that I've played(the first being Black Flag) and although I may not be the most die-hard fan like some others, I can definately see how the AC series has a certain feel and groove to it, and ACS most certainly fits that groove in new and interesting ways. You're able to hijack trains, carriages, free children from factories, and steal cargo from ships which are all great additions to the gameplay of AC. The map itself is absolutely beautiful, the details are all perfect and it really feels like being in victorian London. At times, I felt that the main story was not very interesting and fell into a dull pattern of assassinating characters and I felt that Ubisoft could've made the storyline much more fascinating, and conquering boroughs is incredibly repetitive and takes so much time. Eventhough the main story is a bit dull, I felt that the side missions made up for it - meeting historical characters like Alexander Grambell, Charles Dickens, and Charles Darwin and fulfilling missions for them was very fun. Even if the main story was dull, the assassination missions themselves were extremely fun, because you are able to pick your path to assassination of the caracter instead of having it already layed out for you. All in all, ACS is a worthy addition to the AC franchise and is definately worth the money for a fun game to play (especially if you get it for cheap on a steam sale). The AC franchise is on the right track with this game, and with only a few changes, I feel the next game will be greatly improved.
