If you like heroes, you will like AOW. They are very similar in many ways and I think it improves on a ton of stuff that fans have been asking for for years in heroes and have never recieved. One BIG thing I like is multiplayer can be played with simultanious turns. It is still turn based..ie only can do so much each turn or move your guys so far each turn. Insted of haveing a stack of 100 archers your troops consist of a max stack of 8 in any one group with each of your troops having hit points...you can though have multible stacks of 8 armies in a given battle if they are next to each other when you attack or defend. The battle feild is bigger and I think, IMO, that there is more stratigies available.
So, to sum up, you will like it I'm sure and it is a great value seeing as it has been out so long and is cheap. Again the big thing is simultanious turns is huge....no more waiting a LONG time for your friend to take his/her turn.I still love heroes too. Give it a shot. Cheers :)

If you ever want to play a game of Heroes 3 complete, just drop me a line. I am online almost every evening and stay on quite late so being as we are in different time zones would be no biggie. I'm also a big civ fan. Would love to play sometime. :)
