"Rise and shine,Mr. Freeman,rise and shine"- G-man
Half-Life 2 is the sequel to Half-Life,the game by Valve that pretty much wrote the rules for FPSs way back in 1998.
I haven't played very much of this game myself, but I can guarantee that anyone who plays it will end up loving this game, even those that didn't play HL1 before playing this game(like me).

The plot: Gordon Freeman is brought out of stasis by the G-Man,who inserts him in a train arriving at the fictitous City 17,which was taken over by Combine forces. He eludes the Combine forces and meets Alyx and Barney, and joins the Lambda Resistance. He gets to Dr. Kleiner's lab and assists them in attempting to get a teleporter to teleport him and Alyx to Dr. Eli Vance's lab. The teleportation fails, and he goes through City 17 on foot to get to Eli's lab. He arrives at Black Mesa East and meets up with Eli, where he is captured and taken to a combine prison,Nova Prospekt. Gordon goes through a zombie infested town named Ravenholm and is given a Dune Buggy, which he uses to travel to Nova Prospekt. Eli,Alyx, and Gordon escape, the combine teleporter they used exploding in the process. Gordon and Alyx learn they were in a "slow teleport"during which a week has passed. In their absence, the Resistance mobilized against the combine, turning City 17 into a battleground. Alyx is captured by the Combine and taken to the Citadel, with Gordon, aided by Barney and D0g,goes to the Citadel. He gets caught in a Combine"confiscation chamber",which destroys all of his weapons except for the Gravity Gun,the energy enhancing it's capabilities and turning it into a superior weapon. He is captured riding in a Combine transport pod and is taken to Dr. Breen's office, where he is holding Eli and Alyx captive. Breen explains his plans for further conquest of the humans by the Combine. Breen tries to escape through a portal, but Gordon destroys the portal reactor with the super-charged Gravity Gun. Breen is annihilated in the resulting explosion, but just before Gordon and Alyx get killed, time is frozen, and the G-Man appears, praising Gordon for his actions in City 17 and the Citadel, and puts Gordon back into stasis.

The characters are pretty cool, even if some of the characters can tend to be annoying*looks at Barney*

The music is pretty cool, tho the game mostly relies on ambiance.

The weapons are pretty good, just really your standard FPS weapons, except the Gravity Gun is added, which lets you move almost any object at will. Heck, you get a crowbar also x) :)

This is an amazing game overall,it seriously deserves the critical acclaim that it's gotten, and I HIGHLY recommend this game, even to those that haven't played Half-Life before,it's def worth the 10 bucks
10/10 from me :)

I played(and completed)this game on PS2 before,and I can say that this is an amazing game ^_^
I remember how this game just captivated me when I first played it on PS2,because of the amazing music, characters, etc in it

The plot(in a summary): The President of Georgia is assasinated, allowing billionaire Kombayn Nikoladze(main antagonist)to seize power by bloodless coup d'etat. Sam FIsher(the character you play as),former Navy SEAL officer and Persian Gulf War,is recruited by the NSA to work with it's new division,Third Echelon. He is dispatched to Tbilisi to investigate the disappearence of 2 CIA officers. He finds out that a man named Vyacheslav Grinko(another antagonist)removed their subdermal tracking devices and tracks him down to the defense ministry, finding out that Nikoladze is doing an illegal operation in Azerbaijan. Sam goes to an oil rig and finds that NATO forces are sending fighter jets to bomb the rig,he finds Piotr Lejava and gets his suitcase, which has a laptop containing an encryption key to"The Ark". The information is revealed to have come from a mole in the CIA,so Sam goes to the CIA HQ to investigate, and interrogates Mitchell Dougherty, finding that his OCD caused him to backup data on an insecure laptop, which was exploited by a network owned by Kalinatek. He goes to Kalinatek and finds Ivan, and gets his encryption key. He goes to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar and finds that the Chinese general Feirong is working with Nikoladze, and that American soldiers are going to be executed on live TV. He rescues the soldiers, and kills Grinko in a firefight. He goes back to the Chinese Embassy and forces Feirong to shre information stored on his computer, which reveals that Nikoladze fled back to Georgia. Sam goes back to Georgia and finds Nikoladze in the Presidential Palace, where he narrowly escapes being killed, with Lambert's arranged blackout saving him. He then assassinates Nikoladze after learning that he is disclosing The Ark's location.

The music is amazing.

The characters are amazing, especially Lambert and Grimsdottir.

The stealth mechanics are pretty good too(even if the AI can be wonky at times)

Anyways, overall this is an amazing game that I recommend to everyone.
10/10 from me ^_^

I tried out this game recently after a friend said I would love this game, and MAN was he right :).

The plot is about an unnamed man(the character you play as),who has recurring nightmares about a sawmill and a woman named Anna. As you investigate the sawmill, finding various items and intuitions(basically little bits and pieces of your character's memories),you begin to find out the whole story of just what happened in the sawmill, who Anna is,and just what our character did to Anna, witnessing several horrifying events as you piece together the truth.

The characters are pretty good, especially that wood mannequin that looks like a woman(I can't reveal who the mannequin is because of spoilers),which creeped me out/scared me several times in my 10 hour playthrough. xD

The music is really good, especially the music that plays during when you're outside the sawmill, and the credits themes.

The atmosphere in this game is amazing, where one moment you have that music from outside the sawmill playing, making you feel all safe, and then the next there's some creepy music with that mannequin woman right in your face.

The gameplay is pretty great, which involves solving dif puzzles to progress, and after Stage 2,a sanity meter is added, which lowers the longer you look at a"creepy event"(an example would be looking at the woman mannequin for too long).
The puzzles are kinda challenging your first time through, and the difficulty of the puzzles really depends on if you know what you're doing, and have the items you need(which sometimes your first time through you can miss, believe me I missed about 4 items in Living Quarters, and had to go back there 4 times xD)

Overall, this is a VERY good horror game that I recommend to everyone, even those that haven't played horror puzzle games like this.
9.5/10 from me :)

"Come back to the recovery annex, for your cake"-GLaDOS
After beating Portal 2(which is also an amazing game btw :) ),I got this game during the summer sale, and recently tried the game out,and I agree with other people who have played this game on the fact that it is an amazing game, despite it's short length
The plot(in a basic summary,I'm not entirely sure of plot details myself): You play as a woman named Chell who, under the"supervision"(sort of xD)of the AI GLaDOS,go through 19 test chambers, using a portal gun that creates orange and blue portals, which really play a key role in solving puzzles in the test chambers. Eventually you turn against GLaDOS,discovering GLaDOS's true plans, and destroy her once and for all(except until Portal 2 of course)

The music is very good,in fact,in the relaxation vault at the beginning of the game, there's a nice little catchy song that plays on a radio :)

While there are kinda few characters in this game(really there's only GLaDOS,Chell, and the turrets, and that's it)they still are very likable characters, especially GLaDOS with her hilarious dialogue(R.I.P. youtube comments section with their"THE CAKE IS A LIE"spam XD)

The puzzles aren't as complex I would say as Portal 2's puzzles are,but they still are kinda challenging,in fact some involve timing putting your Portals on portal-able surfaces right

Overall, while this game is pretty short(It should take you about 2-4 hours your first time),the hilarious dialogue, nice learning curve on the puzzles for those new to Portal, and great characters make up for that

10/10 from me :)

After beating A Machine for Pigs I decided to move on to this game, and I can say that this game is as good as that game,if not better :)
The game centers around this man named Daniel who has a bit of a case of Amnesia(hence the title),and thwarts the plans of Alexander, one man who used to be his friend until Daniel found out about his real plans
For those that have seen a bit of gameplay/other reviews, you may know that this game has puzzles, and PLENTY of them.
I honestly have to say that my first time playing I just gave up when I got to the lab puzzle because of how bad I was at the game back then(xD),but after some pointers from my friend who completed the game before, and some prior knowledge from guides I saw and videos I saw I managed to beat the puzzles :),and overall the puzzles aren't too hard,so long as you know what you're doing
The atmosphere(which is typical in a horror game like this)is plentiful and actually managed to scare me in some parts, along with the monsters*looks at the water monsters*.
The music is good, not much else to say about the music.
The gameplay is great overall, kinda going with the puzzle stuff I mentioned earlier.
You also get this lantern that once you run low on oil with you of course need to refill it,there's certain cases where you actually don't want your lantern out otherwise a monster will spot you and chase you(and possibly kill you xD)

Overall this is a great horror game that I recommend to everyone for those that are looking for a really really good indie horror game,I guess my only complaint at all(and it's a small one)being the difficulty of some of the puzzles
9.5/10 from me :)

Ok,after the amount of game I've played so far(I'm at the point where you find Father Martin in the admin block),and the gameplay I've seen,I can say that this is an amazing horror game.
Whether you're a gore-thirsty kind of person, want good scares,or both, this game has a bit of everything for every kind of horror fan
The musical score by Samuel Laflamme is amazing and probably one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard in a horror game.
The plot: There's an investigative independent journalist named Miles Upshur. After getting an email from an anonymous source(Waylon Park from Whistleblower),he is prompted to go into Mount Massive Asylum and uncover the truth behind Murkoff's intentions in the asylum. He then finds that Mount Massive has a darker story behind it than it may seem.
The gameplay is great, with it involving carrying a camera around. This camera is important throughout the game because the camera has night vision that you can use to navigate dark areas.
The characters are great, have good voice acting, and are effective in scaring you(especially your first time playing).
In addition if you like the main story, there's DLC to the game, titled Whistleblower, and that expansion is as good as Outlast and is an amazing game as well :)

Overall this an amazing horror game that I recommend to everyone. 10/10 from me :)
(UPDATE July 12,2014 6:00 PM: just beat the game my first time,on to Whistleblower :) )
(UPDATE August 31,2014 2:04 PM: just beat Whistleblower, and I honestly have to say both are amazing horror games, and probably my favorite game on Steam :) )
(UPDATE Jan 19,2015 6:14 PM: Just got sub 10 on Any%(9:59.78) :D)
(UPDATE Feb 14,2015 5:47 PM: Speedrunning this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ addicting)

I personally loved this game, and I do highly highly recommend it to people that haven't played Amnesia before.
This game is of course more story-driven than the first game, but that's what makes the game good. :)

The plot(in a basic summary, the plot is a little complex): After a tragic incident during an expedition in Mexico,Oswald Mandus has recurring dreams of a machine, and he wakes up from a fever(and the fever causes him to have a bit of a case of Amnesia, hence the title),and he ventures further and deeper into the machine, going from his mansion to various other locations, trying to find his children,Edwin and Enoch. After he is tricked into activating the machine,an army of manpigs are released that kill everyone on the streets. Mandus, realizing what he's done, and that he has no right to take the fate of humanity in his own hands, deactivates the machine in a final act of redemption and guilt, destroying himself and the machine in the process.

The music is amazing, and actually made me cry/got me VERY close to crying about 4 times total throughout the game my first time playing, especially these beautiful pieces of music that play in the ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TSKgwvHgho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjwLXMA-we8

The gameplay is of course different than The Dark Descent, with the inventory and Sanity Meter being taken out.
Often when I see reviews of this game, they rate it down because it's"not scary"and a bunch of things from Dark Descent were taken out,but to be completely honest,I LOVE both Amnesia games, and honestly the gameplay differences between the 2 games weren't an issue for me at all, because the things I mentioned above with the music and story(and the manpigs coming out to get me,which believe me scared me A LOT my first time through xD)made up for that. :)

Anyways I do highly highly recommend this game for those that like horror/story driven games, especially those who have not played an Amnesia game yet,def give this a try! ^_^

10/10 from me :)

Probably one of the best HL2 based games I've played(including Gmod of course)

Pros-
Mysterious story that can pull you in and get you interested
Good music
Easy to use controls for people new to HL2 or HL2 based mods/games

Cons-
Is kinda short(then again it's a HL2 mod, besides that no real things I can think of that I didn't like)

Awesome music, awesome gameplay with the ground forming under your feet as you go,awesome everything :)
This game's plot centers around"The Kid"when he wakes up after an event called The Calamity destroyed the world. He finds the Bastion(along with a few characters)and has to collect these items called cores and shards to rebuild the Bastion and save the world basically, and you can choose between an evacuation or restoration ending.
The characters are pretty likable,my personal fav of course being The Kid and the narrator.
The music is really good, especially the main menu and credits themes. :)
The gameplay is really good too. The ground forms under your feet as you go through the level which looks pretty cool. Gameplay is like an indie RPG brawler sort of thing.
Anyway I highly recommend it to those that have not played it before or played a game like it before,I can guarantee you you're gonna like it
9.8/10 from me :)

As a person that was not entirely used to puzzle games before(or played the original before this),I can tell you you're gonna love this game :),even if you haven't played the original Portal. If I could go above 10 on a"out of 10"rating,I would give it an 11,it's that good! ^_^
Music is amazing(especially the credits, where every time I got to that point I sung along with it)
Humor is aplenty in the game and is one of my fav points about it and is one of the main things that kept me playing for 30+ hours :)
Characters are pretty likable(kinda going with the above thing about humor)(my fav personally being Wheatley, because at first he's your friend, and then towards the final 2 chapters he turns on you and is even the final boss, and there's even a nice little easter egg related to Wheatley on the main menu screen after you beat the game ^_^)
The puzzles are puzzling at first(especially starting at Chapter 6 The Fall),but the game has a nice learning curve so after a while of going through you won't get stuck much(heck my first time through I looked at guides on youtube because I kept getting confused at the puzzles, then after about my second time through I didn't have much trouble getting through them because I remembered whatever I did the first time I played through as a refresher in the chambers I got stuck on before)
And for those that want to play the game with a friend, there's a co-op mode added, with about 5 courses, about 20 chambers each(which like in singleplayer are challenging your first time through),with a new story behind it too(which explains the 2 robots with GLaDOS in the ending of singleplayer)
Anyway,I highly recommend this game, again even if you haven't played the original, and I'm sure you're gonna love it! ^_^
10/10 from me :)
