Long time BF player, played and grew up on 1942 and have been through every single weird BF installment from 2142 (much cooler concept) to even hardline. This game suffers from oddly forced trends which some corpo suit thought they could pull a "hey there fellow cool kids" gimmick, I played early and haven't picked it up since but I still see some of the problems still exist from other reviews, the balance is super odd and often leaves unfun situations that forces you to play 1 or 2 characters, the level of destruction from previous games is beyond a joke and many of the updates were just fleshing out open empty maps and adding features which were baseline in previous games. This on top of the game aiming to suddenly be an odd hybrid of a hero shooter makes things like target identification frustrating because you're fighting an evil clone twin while also helping your other good clone twin while watching a really weird acid trip of a dream seeing clones of other clones just stabbing and shooting each other with the only difference being a small chem light.

Vehicle play was meh at best, and suffers from odd balance as well, such as transport helicopters needing 5 shots from the main gun of a tank which takes 5 seconds to reload per shell, while also allowing these flying battleships to pack a rather oppressive arsenal for anything in the air or on the ground (at my time of playing), at the end of the day the game simply lacks much soul, and as a so called "love letter" to fans, I think this letter is one best left unanswered. I played it, I tried to like it, but it just felt so dull, maybe they'll get it right next time, lesson learned I will never preorder anything again.

Portal had some good potential though.
