I'd say NABOKI is more mechanical and trial-and-error than other Maciej Targoni's games but still in the same vein and enjoyable.

Thumbs up from me!

I know how to exit vim[stackoverflow.com] but not this game :D

The game itself is fine, but PC port is rather lazy. There is no escape button, so I have to Alt + F4 the game to quit. I'd like to see some dark mode too, there is so much blazing whiteness on my 21:9 monitor.

Keep in mind that it's mobile first game and you can play it for free on Google Play, it'd be more natural to use swipes to control the cube.

I'll still rate it as positive because I like the idea here, it's cool you can get lost inside your own brain :D

For the much better and artistic presentation of the same idea there are gorgeous Monument Valley 1 and 2, check them out.

Once upon a time ...

At launch this game sucked. It was The Binding of Isaac wannabe, but a rather meh, bland one.
Basic mechanics were solid, but one of the core systems for roguelikes - items - wasn't. Plenty of junk items and guns, no synergies whatsoever.
I was dumb to keep playing, so I know what I'm talking about :/

Now

As of now the game is considered finished and with all the updates is a really good roguelike that I recommend to try to anyone.
EtG has all the stuff well done: good variety of enemies and bosses, items and guns that work together in your favor, long-term goals be that even more guns or unlockable characters, and so on.

Difficulty

I praise game's fair difficulty. You rarely get overpowered here. HP and armor are of real value. So are blanks - consumables that clear the screen of all projectiles upon use. You should spend all these resources wisely.

If you don't master dodge roll - becoming Boris the Blade aka Boris the Bullet Dodger - you have nothing to do in The Gungeon. This is the path of mastery and takes time and practice, but don't be afraid, it doesn't require you to spend hundreds of hours.

Dodge roll excellence is especially important in boss fights. They can take plenty of your hearts, but as you learn avoid getting hit and the bosses themselves, you can even finish such encounters hitless. Of course, you'll get a special treat for that - Master Round (a heart container).

Finally, your expectation of gradual difficulty progression will be met.

Completionist notes

This is a roguelike that is actually completable, not an enormous sink like The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. I'd say you need ~100 hours to get all the achievements. You'll be getting shiny new stuff along the way which is cool.

Technical notes

The game runs natively on Linux, no issues.
Also it supports 21:9 and other ultrawide aspect ratios (added 2 years after release!).

TLDR

Excellent roguelike game; don't play games at launch!

P.S.

A rare game that I occasionally think of playing again once I stumble upon it over the internet or in talks. Kinda one of the highest appreciations a game can have.

Successor to original The Binding of Isaac and the most famous roguelike game of our days (the past decade, at least).

It has so much to offer in terms of variety: characters, items (passive / active / trinkets), enemies and bosses, floor and room layouts etc. Literally anything can happen in the game, sometimes you even become OP and basically unkillable.

Achievements

You'll go nuts if you're eager to get every achievement, so beware. Better take it easy and have fun, drop the game if it stops surprising you and isn't enjoyable enough.

Downsides

1. The major con is the soundtrack by Ridiculon - pure trash, absolute garbage; I literally hate it. Such a pity McMillen and Danny Baranowski (composer of awesome scores to Super Meat Boy and original TBoI) had some quarrel in the past and Danny B didn't write anything for Team Meat and Co since :(

Perfect replacement:

It's music composed for community expansion Antibirth[antibirth.com] and it's fantastic, highly recommend ♥

2. I liked the look of original flash-y game more, it was cuter.

3. Finally, the last (and final?) DLC to the game Repentance isn't supported on Linux, unlike TBOI: Rebirth and all the previous expansions to it. Sucks :(

Meh, didn't like the physics of it. Also controls didn't feel intuitive (even in options, lol). Navigation in options itself is somewhat confusing too.

Music is good, but it's been known by me for years :)

So yeah, I didn't like the core of the game and that's it.

Short version of Mars Power Industries that highlights main game mechanics.

21 puzzles, ~30 minutes to complete. Puzzles are NOT REPEATED in the Mars Power Industries, so this "demo version" has its own value.

It's a smart and well done puzzle game, give it a go.

Played on Linux, no issues whatsoever.
