Wait for a big sale (like 5/4 or summer/Christmas)

The story is serviceable.
Combat was fun, until it wasn't.
Combat at times felt random/unfair at times, but when it worked it was fun.

Very good turn based strategy game. Get it, very well worth playing at least twice.

Why?
There's a few layers of strategy done very well here. you're actions in one layer directly affects what you are working w/ in the next layer. and if you can command your squad well, it'll benefit the first layer w/ extra money and things to research.

You will feel like a strategic master, or at least expert by the end of the game. Scrambling your fighter jets and sending out strike teams to downed UFOs, capturing the survivors, and researching their tech to make bigger weapons. While balancing which countries to protect first and not making wasteful mistakes w/ your men or money.

This is a very fine game. it's similar to XCOM, but introduces a lot of new ideas i really like.

I really like the way your heroes will die of old age. They will be lucky to go on 2 or even 3 missions in their lifetime. Makes me much less likely to save scum and i actually played past a few character deaths (something i really never did before).

I like that there's a building that lets your heroes gain exp over time instead of purely kills/missions. And that you can also see the exp number they're at instead of just guessing/calculating it yourself.

I like that exp carries over from one generation of heroes to the next.

I like that enemies affect more about your heroes than just their health.

I like that I have to keep in mind the ages of my heroes and figure out who i want to have the most kills/get the most exp during the missions.

I like that there's more for your heroes to do than just fight. They can help w/ research, help train other heroes, and make new heroes

with all that being said, there are some things that could have used a little work to improve the game overall.

I didn't like that there's no customization for individuals. It's kinda there w/ how looks are past on genetically, but you're not going to try and arrange for looks, you'll do it based off of age and child probability.

I don't like how i never really got to know any bloodlines. I'm glad I had the blue flag bloodline of hunters and the blue and purple flag bloodline of alchemists. But I really don't remember much more about them beyond that.

The graphics are simple but creative in the enemy design. I was thinking of it all as kinda low budget, but it does the job. Only complaint about graphics would be that the heroes look a little derpy sometimes.

TLDR: This is a fun bloodline/breeding simulator on top of a class, turn, and ability based combat system. It holds interesting spins on ideas at the cost of some other qualities.

If i didn't have it, I'd buy it again. if it was on sale for 50% off... maybe just like 25% off.

Started the game. made a bloodline of hunters and a bloodline of alchemists. Mix those and you get hybrids of the classes. alchemists are essentially grenadiers, carrying explosive vials into battle. somewhere along the way the bloodlines (yes both of them) picked up the reveler trait and the majority of the heroes showed up to battle drunk.
during the final encounter, only one of my heroes were sober. All of them were flinging explosive flasks and shooting arrows at the enemy. I just thought it was funny to see a bunch of drunk soldiers throwing grenades and winning.

Thanks for reading to the end! :) Hope you have a great day!

It's good. It's short. Its looks aren't the best, but the humor inside is the best part of the game. It won't overstay it's welcome being less than 10 hours long.

This is a great alternative to those who want age of empires 2 with a starwars skin.
i highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the age of empire series.
This game changes a few things from AOE 2, like the addition of aircraft, shields, and power management and the repalcement of basic melee units with basic ranged units making every engagement a ranged engagement with a few exceptions.

I have a video where I explain a few of these changes and run through a basic game here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL70gzSalCM.

I would highly recommend this game that has given me so many hours of fun in my younger days and now as an adult.
