Pretty fun 4X game, especially if you're into fantasy. I was trying to decide between this one and Endless Space 2, but I think my love for fantasy won me over.

Anyway, for me it feels pretty much like Civ V (lazy comparison, I know, but bear with me) but more streamlined. Tech trees are more manageable, no more getting locked out from a particular tech because you didn't research the previous tech which I think makes for dynamic gameplay. A more accessible UI (for me, at least) makes it easier for me to learn the more complicated mechanics of 4X. Also, barbarians aren't just boring kill-and-loot affairs, and the minor factions actually have something to contribute and make the early game way more interesting.

I really like how the factions play very differently from each other. The mechanical difference for each faction are very interesting, especially for factions like the Cultists, Broken Lords, and Roving Clans. Really feels like a fresh experience playing each faction (although, I'll admit I haven't finished a game with each faction yet). This is probably my favorite part of the game.

For the AI, I've read that it's kind of easy on Normal. I've won a bunch of times, and I'm not even great at 4X games but yeah, I guess they were a bit on the easy side. I strongly suggest you get the Endless Legend Community Patch (ELCP) if you want more challenge without giving the AI too much of a "cheat code" (as it does on the higher difficulties). Yes, I'm a 4X casual, so what man? Anyway, aside from improving the AI, the ELCP also puts a lot of great QoL changes, so I definitely recommend.

Initially, I didn't enjoy the combat, and it took me a while to get into it. It's not too hard to get into, but I find it's more crucial to be good at combat here compared to Civ. If you're like me and you don't really enjoy the combat aspect of Civ games/4X, then you might be a little annoyed. Good thing making units is actually fun, and the combat isn't just mashing units all onto 1 enemy tile (I mean, okay it kinda is at times LOL but generally requires a lot more strategy.

As for things I didn't really like, yeah I guess it's the combat. Winter sucks if you don't have the Shifters DLC. As much as I like it, the UI can get a little unintuitive at times (took me a while to figure out how to rename cities lol). Also, some factions feel a little... underwhelming? Morgawr, Forgotten, Wild Walkers... I don't know they just don't do it for me haha. Haven't tried public multiplayer yet, but multi with friends seems to work fine (although one time we kept getting out of sync for some reason).

Quick thought, on the topic of multiplayer, it's really cool how the DLC is shared with the whole room if the host has 'em. Thank you for that.

Anyway, sorry for the word vomit. Bottom line, if you like 4X, you'll probably enjoy this game. Get the ELCP after your first 2 games or something. Have fun in Auriga!

When I first stumbled upon Terraria (maybe 6-7 years ago), I was thinking to myself "w3w another minecraft clone but this one is 2d" but soon enough I was proven wrong and I thoroughly enjoyed the more exploration/rpg approach to the survival x crafting spree genre. Like I've said several times to my friends and family: You play Minecraft and Terraria for different reasons. It's more than just "2d minecraft".

Anyway, highly recommended with friends. I have not really played alone, but I imagine it's similar to co-op but with 50 times the challenge.

My faves:
-customizing your builds is fun; you can really feel the roles you're going into and you can noticeably feel your character get stronger without becoming too OP for a long time.
-surprising amount of events and encounters, makes exploring and expanding your base feel so much more rewarding
-watching your friends fall into lava

My complaints:
-managing your inventory and chests can be a pain, especially with the smaller icons.
-building walls (background) sucks
-doesn't control tightly sometimes (for me at least)

Combat is fun, game looks great, finding a match isn't that hard, and the connection is fine. The classes/heroes also provide a lot of diversity. Pretty good game actually.

BUT

I think it's too expensive for what it is. Also, not much to do yet.

I'd still recommend but get it on a sale or something idk.
