This is my fifth? edit for this review, and probably my final. For reference first review was negative because of early server issues making the game essentially unplayable, then positive once those resolved, negative when sony pulled a sony, positive post sony account resolution, and now we're going negative again and I expect it will stay there.

Why? The game fundamentally doesn't respect your time and a lack of core competence from the devs. After a furious pace of patches every two weeks on launch that were plagued with horrible balance "fixes" that consisted of releasing new weapons and then nerfing them in severe and sometimes inexplicable ways they call a halt, take a month to make a substantial patch to address various issues and rebalance some under performing strats/weapons. Sounds good right? Sure if they actually did what they claimed and while it's a step in the correct direction they still made inexplicable changes and broke various things as well as turning the game into a crash simulator. Right now there is a weapon called the spear that will not only crash you to desktop, but can crash others in the game out by being used.

The only way you'd know this is if you follow the games subreddit. They do not have a Q/A process/department, stuff gets released with huge problems and there's no communication.

Performance in general has been tanking and losing some fps isn't the issue for me it is for some but when the game can dump you out after 30 minutes or crashed to desktop 4 times on drop because the devs are incompetent and don't test before release that's not a skill issue on the player side.

Patrols were majorly borked prior to last patch and they claimed they would roll back to a previous version, instead we got a bait and switch so we're completely swarmed in missions now. Essentially even if they tell you they hear you and claim they'll address any given issue they either can't execute or will deliver something completely different than what they claimed they would. In addition they will break 3 things that are unrelated to fix one thing. Game is literally worse now then at release in terms of bugs.

At this point it's really the epitome of "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed."

Early Access Review
Game has no right being as good as it is in early access and at this price. Devs are working hard and always adding to the game. This isn't the usual EA title where things are janky and not working, game has been fun and playable for ages now, and they just keep making it better.

If you like this type of game you will like this game.

If you don't like this type of game, take a hard look in the mirror and ask yourself where your life went wrong.

Is this a good game? Not terribly. Is it a good aliens game? It's alright. Can't recommend at full price but if it's sub $20 on sale and you like a budget aliens reskin of killing floor, you could do worse.

Pro's:
Aliens! Game sound and environment nail this pretty well. The graphics are not mind blowing but they do the job and the steady tick of the motion tracker and sounds of gunfire do put you in the Aliens setting.
Classes/unlocks encourage you to repeat the missions, and you will because

Con's:
4 Campaigns, each composed of 3 missions so you're going to see the same stuff a lot.
No randomness beyond stashes you might find. Remember that ambush you got hit with? Don't worry you will because it's gonna happen every time at the same spot. I understand you want set piece battles in a game like this but they could have done something to introduce some uncertainty. You could still design spaces that are a good ambush points and have them randomly trigger for example.

Alien movement is not as fluid as it feels like it should be. Enemy just kind of snap from floor to wall in a weird way that feels like they skip animation frames or something.

Weapons are a bit of a mixed bag and the way difficulty levels scale up enemy HP means some stuff becomes much less viable as you progress. Also some weapons are just objectively not good and have no real reason to be used beyond you wanting to impose extra difficulty on yourself.

MP only: You can technically play solo but the bots are not great and personally I find the game is not compelling enough to play solo but it is fun with a team. Depending on when you want to play however you may not be able to get one, as the player volume is not there to support play anytime you might want to. Also the game forces you to complete all campaigns before unlocking quickplay which will just find any open slot to put you into a team. Not a deal breaker but in a game that is effectively MP only it's a bit of a misstep in my opinion.

TLDR: Tentative thumbs up if it's on sale, not enough meat on the bone for full price.

Out of touch devs making undisclosed changes and ignoring feedback unless it's apocalyptic. Was the game fun? yes. Is the game going to be fun when you try it? Impossible to say!
