Forbidden West is an empty shell of an otherwise great sci-fi, with a poorly developed storyline. Guerrilla made it intentionally shallow, focusing more on gameplay: the cheesy and cliche opening monolog sets the tone for the entire campaign, far from worth the high expectations built from its predecessor. It's a plain and simple mediocre storyline and having to acknowledge it is displeasing.

Gameplay-wise, on the other hand, Forbidden West is pure fun, polishing everything previously established by Zero Dawn (and, that being said, it's almost impossible not to recommend it). The broken expectations regarding storyline do not diminish the joy of playing (just give yourself some creative license and all will be good).

From launch date till a year afterwards, multiplayer was unstable and overall performance below acceptable levels. Big let down for the old fans.
However, Age of Mythology: Retold is now available and has seen proper work put into it. My suggestion for newcomers is to either check it out or grab the original, skipping this one for good.
