Easily the most mechanically accurate and depth-filled historical simulator game.

My favourite thing to do in any history game is compare my own performance with the country compared to what happened in real life, and this game scratches that itch better than any other due to how *believable* all the mechanics and behaviours of countries feel.

I also like the direction the game is taking, with each major update flushing out previously simplified mechanics (while also tackling the challenge of not destroying game performance and making it understandable/interesting for the player).

They really have some geniuses directing this game right now, since no other game or studio is even close to what this game is trying to do. And I feel in most game studios such a project would easily fail just from the insane complexity, and yet this Paradox team is actually managing to make it even more complex *while not making the game worse in the process*

This I think will probably be my most favourite civ game.

Civ 6 and 7 took more of a "board game" approach with basically trying to create a good game with interesting mechanics and *then* smacking history elements on it. Problem with that approach is that you end up with mechanics that feel so detached from history that you could barely call it a history game. Oh, let me spend 3 turns to put this eternal governor into this city that magically makes it immune to disasters or makes pops grow faster.

I mean civ 5 also has plenty of that, but at least it makes some mechanics ***feel*** believable. Like you actually are re-creating the great roman empire with millions of people or something.

Also civ 5 feels less micro-managey compared to 6. I'm also gonna not even really bother comparing to 7 seeing as how it's kinda a buggy mess.

Anyways, I like Paradox Interactive games more since their mechanics feel more "how can we create a mechanic that allows this historic event to take place (in a fun way)" and I find them much more engaging since I can like compare myself to real life entities, which is neat.

Back to 5. Uh the multiplayer is a gitchy mess (seems to be a common theme with civ).
The mods are good though! I wanna say most of the hours I have in this game are playing modded singleplayer. There are some big ol' packs out there like Vox Populi but there are still some active modders creating new mods for the game 15 years after release which is pretty cool.

Story/world building felt off? Idk there was always something about the game that didn't feel right compared to BL2.

However, I think the mechanics, features, and characters of this game were probably some of the most interesting of the series. I also had quite a bit of good fun with it back in the day so I'll give it a recommendation. Though seeing has how it's been 11 years, there's probably better looter shooters out there.

Didn't really do it for me as much as the first two games did.

Characters were boring, story and world building lackluster, and overall kinda felt more like the AAA slop that didn't feel very passionate. Nothing particularly new and interesting mechanics-wise either unfortunately. Felt primarily geared towards 13-14 y/olds in these aspects.

It had its moments, but overall gave a rather forgettable experience. Unless there is a shift in management at Gearbox, I do not have high hopes for BL4

Factorio is an absolute classic!

It really triggers the 'builder' in me to solve some problems and make a big ol' factory that I can look at and be like "dang, I built that." Feels pretty satisfying

The way you solve problems reminds me of programming, which is neat. There's actually this one mod called Factorissimo that lets you put chunks of your factories into buildings and that really reminds me of functions. Good fun, would recommend

This is a super mechanically-complex game (making it pretty hard getting started) but it's super flavour-rich and is always one of those games I return to to spend a couple days straight playing.

Has some awesome mods too! I highly recommend the Anbennar mod, which is it's own custom scenario based in a D&D-like fantasy with magic, artificery, custom races (orcs, elves, dwarves, etc.), and is imo has a lot more fun/interesting mission trees than the base game (and probably accounts for like half my hours in this game haha)

This mod is fricking awesome! Really feels like a fully expansion.

The new characters are all unique and fun, and the new mechanics are also super neat like how the hero "bosses" you fight play cards and have mechanics from their actual class. It's super neat!

The new relics and potions also create some interesting combos

Probably one of the best ARPGs out there. It's one of the harder ones as well, so keep that in mind
