I can't even make any progress because apparently you need to beat like a dozen stages with a few lives and playing with an analog stick on steam deck feels horrible. Maybe I'll see if mouse control is better. I'll try to go back to town to spend gold but it always resets my gold to 50. This just seems idiotic.

Edit: Still sucks on mouse control for steamdeck.

Will always be a defender of this game. At the time, I think the spec requirements just alienated a lot of their audience so many people lashed out. It truly felt like UT2004 with a cleaner graphical polish and a little more focus on physics. The standout element here was the soundtrack. Jesper Kyd did like ten tracks that are legendary. They remixed some old favorites but even the new music was fantastic. While I love 2004, it was a quantity over quality entry and I felt like UT3 had more focus. I fully admit that 2004 was a far more mod friendly product, and joining random servers and instantly downloading new experiences as you did it, was a BLAST, but UT3 is just a great standalone product, straight forward and simple. And yes, even the hoverboards are useful if you just grasp the physics of them and understand you are wearing a huge target on your back.

Supposedly it will soon be free 2 play as they are shutting down the servers for the older UT games.

It's incredibly stupid, shallow, pointless and addictive as crack. I just hope he does rebuild this on a new engine so it no longer becomes 5 frame per second at the end of every run on SteamDeck, due to it only using 1 CPU core and supposedly being built on an HTML engine. The resolution scaling of sprites is also ugly as hell. The menus and everything just look like garbage no matter what screen you use.

Edit: After the engine was upgraded, this thing runs like a dream on handheld PCs even at 5 watt, even at the end of runs where it gets chaotic. Now its truly a good portable title.

Fun lil shmup. The unique gimmick is that only the D-Pad is used. No action buttons at all. Every run has you equipping 4 weapons and 4 utilities and seeing how they work well together.

The dev's politics are atrocious, but if you can ignore that, this is a good MMORPG. Existing players CAN actually install the Steam version and play with their accounts by using a secret launch command. The amount of campaign stuff to do here and land to explore is staggering, even if you dont buy the 3 expansions.

The launch option you type is as follows:

As far as card games go, it's slick looking, seems about as good as Witcher Gwent. Just be warned this is a quick mobile to PC port. Its not formatted for your display. Its just a tall window. Hopefully someday they will fix that.

Oh lordy this is a mobile gaming AF. I guess if you are already a fan of this on your phone it might be nice to cloud resume your progress here, but this game just feels like a massive downgrade from Torchlight 2 in every way.

Got it for free on Microsoft Store from Amazon Prime but decided to buy it here for $10. I normally have a Bethesda blacklist up but dammit, this is Fallout, sort of...

After what, 4 years since launch? It's actually not bad. It sort of feels like Fallout 4 at times. But you quickly realize the grind here has increased. The online aspect of the game can help carry you through the grind, as it's actually quite a nice game to just log in and do whatever you want. Team up, do quests, farm or build. I think you actually get a lot here for your $10 sale price. The optional monthly fee tier is a joke that I cant imagine anyone paying for.

My biggest complaint by far here: The lag. The combat feels like 56k dial up Quake 2 back in the day. And its ALWAYS laggy. Just killing ghouls, they always react about 3/4ths of a second late to your guns or melee attacks. I really cant believe this feels so bad and that I've NEVER seen other people talk about this. Its a damn shame. I find that melee especially is complete trash now, and the longer distance shooting you are doing, the less you will notice. I'm mainly shotgunning right now and it's just barely tolerable, but it leads to me firing an extra shell I didn't need to because the enemy is still seemingly alive because the death animation is lagged.

Overall, a good freeform chillout and screw around game for the time being. Don't expect a story on par with F4, or a story even half as good as Fallout: New Vegas.

Lvl76 character follow up after 55 hours:

I really think people who are still bashing this game as a solid thumbs down are just engaging in mob mentality. The biggest complaint I see is the 1200lb inventory limit. I wish they'd consider that your Fallout 4 saves would get quite massive in size, and a limit for the sake of the serverspace is not too unreasonable. You are really given a LOT here for a free game (or a $10 sale price on Steam). It's pretty damn generous.

If the inventory limit bothers you, I suspect if you actually looked in your stash, you would NOT be able to justify all the garbage you have hoarded. And you can sell most of the broken down garbage by BULKING it up with excess plastic as wrapping, and selling it to the vendors. I sold probably 900lbs in steel scrap I didn't realize I accumulated, and now my inventory space has breathing room again. I will be making it more efficient by selling other garbage. This is really a stupid hill to die on. Bash the game for it's scripting and physics bugs and other typical Bethesda ♥♥♥♥. Don't bash it for a totally understandable serverside limit.

Besides that, I just wanted to say the grind actually has dramatically loosened since the stat lvl cap of 50. Reading a few character build guides helps. I am just obliterating most enemies now with my gauss shotgun, and my well optimized perks and setting my mutations permanent with the specific Luck perk everyone goes for. I have yet to even decide on power armor and I may not bother. I prefer mobility and stealth. It felt like a long road to lvl50, and then It felt like hitting lvl76 went by at 6x speed. The endgame content is surprisingly reasonable. Yes, if you want specific armor sets, you are gonna need a LOT of gold bricks by doing a lot of public events as they occur. I am still an asset to teams now without the elite armors.

Bethesda is still on my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ list, but for now, I commend them on fixing a game after 4 years. But I really hope the IP eventually either leaves their hands, or they finally just switch to Unreal or something else as an engine, because the game has no excuse to run as bad as it does in some areas, especially when it's using only 30% of my CPU/GPU.

Lvl105 follow up:

Dear lord, there's basically nothing left worth doing. It was a fine ride, I guess, but this definitely doesn't have MMORPG lasting appeal.

When its like $3 its definitely worth it. Overall the graphics and physics are fine. Not a very optimized game. It will work your machine hard and runs kinda poorly on SteamDeck. Compared to the free2play Fishing Planet, which runs cleaner for sure, it seems like a bad deal until you realize Fishing Planet's terrible progression grind.

I just wanted a simple solo experience with a good pace and this was that. Maybe too much so. If you follow a guide and just fish according to it, you'll find the game starts off too easy after you buy a decent lure and know the right spot. You'll be buried in trout. A few thousand dollars earned and I am feeling like it's time to start checking out the newer ponds and trying for different types of fish, using different types of rods. Unfortunately the additional ponds cost earnings to go to, after you hit their level requirement. There is a lot of DLC waters you can buy and get instant access to. I saw the total package went for $16 on sale once.

The biggest complaint I have is with the multiplayer not showing other people beyond just generic emoji bubble models levitating around. You dont see them casting or doing anything. Its basically just a chat room. And I'd say 70% of the players are chinese. Fishing Planet did this far better. You got to see other players actually...playing the game. This really kills the experience of just being a nice social hangout game.

There is actually an online radio function but most of the stations dont load anymore. But this is PC, so we can just put anything we want on in the background.

The animations during gameplay are all pretty good. Physics mostly represented. But I will say a lot of the time fish are swimming in very unrealistic ways. Sometimes they animate like Playstation 1 models would, sharply jerking at 90 degrees and such. Once again, I think Fishing Planet has this beat, but unfortunately that game is a money pit.

Anyway, I'm hoping UFS2 shapes up to be far better than this one. It's currently in early access and UFS1 owners can get it for $12 right now. I just suspect it will be a very buggy game for another year or so.
