The first 50 hours spent in dead by daylight are nothing short of terrifying. You hide in lockers and behind trees, praying the killer won't notice your butt sticking out. But you soon realize that you don't need to fear the killer, you learn how to interact with the environment to transform what started as a hide and seek into an intricate game of cat and mouse.

That's where skill is introduced, that's where people start trying, and that's where things start falling apart.

This game was simply not made with the idea that people would actually care about winning. The developers and the game itself refuse to even define what a win is. This blurs the line between bm and optimal strategy, as both killers and survivors can abuse the game's flaws to steal the other side's shot at having a fair game.

These issues have been crippling the game since 2016 and because of the lack of competition in the assymetrical horror pvp genre the devs have never had a reason to get out of their comfort zone and experiment with ways of fixing the game's core problems.

It's hard to believe that what started as a small indie smash-like now has a full fledged competitive scene, paired with growing youtube and twitch communities.

It really feels like there's always something to look up to, be it new legends, crossovers, balance patches or tournaments. The fact the devs get involved with the community through weekly streams is just the cherry on top.

Brawlhalla has doubled its playerbase over the course of 2020, and the future is looking better than ever.

To me it looks more like a phone app than a pc game. Regardless, it's great

+ The game is fun, the sensation of speed you can get is a pure pleasure.

+There are a few different gamemodes which all deliver a different experience

+ The core mechanic is original: you're a solar-enery space ship and you have to be faster than the sun so that it doesn't set in order to always have light to fly with.

+ The world will change everytime you launch the game, which means every run is different. Each world lasts long enough for you to learn its patterns and obstacles placements but not long enough to get you bored.

-It gets a bit repetitive after a few hours. To avoid that, the devs should probably: make the space ship upgrade system a little bit more complex and interesting, with more special upgrades and such. They could also add a few more mechanics to the game to make it deeper. I'm far from being a game developper but I'm just giving my opinion on how you could improve this game.

Conclusion
It's probably not worth 10€. I would say get it for free or on sale. I don't understand the reasoning behind such an expensive pricetag, but well, the developpers probably have their reasons

A game you should consider purchasing

Pros:

-The mechanics are simple, unique and kinda interesting.

-You can fly on overpowered spaceships which can shoot 5 rockets in a row or float mid-air and slain people while wielding your futuristic sword or even take your shotgun and disguise as a pile of blocks and be part of the map.

-You can build your own map

-The game feels good to play (although it's quite subjective)

-You can do a classic capture the flag, team deathmatch or go with your friends in infection mode, build a shack and try to survive to the zombie horde.

-You can pretend to be Batman with a graplin hook.

-You can even become a zombie and use your tongue as a graplin hook.

-Fairly balanced

-Runs on your grandpa's pc

-Easy to understand, you'll get how the game works after barely 10 hours.

Cons:

-Lacks players

-Little weapon variety

-Not very deep in terms of gameplay

Conclusion: Do I recommend it ? yes ! despite all the cons I mentionned above, I had a very good experience playing this game. Very fun with friends on your own server, which you can easily modify as you wish.
