$20 patch for a game that came out almost 7 years ago. Great if you're into PvP/revival of the playerbase as a whole, or if you're a new player. Not recommended if you're just looking to play it again - that's what DSFix is for!

Bluehole/PUBG Corp. has become a prime example of a scummy company. Buggy game, adds more microtransactions instead of fixing issues, focuses on quantity over quality, and now they're suing the company that licenses their engine. Scum.

While the release was an absolute disaster, HG pulled through and now - finally - have a game worth playing.

Prey offers a beautiful sci-fi enviornment with an interesting and humorous narative, all backed with a constant feeling of dread and uncertainty, as walking into a room full of coffee mugs can quickly turn into your worst nightmare. Although its combat and action seems lackluster and usually misplaced, it makes up for it with exploration and the large amount of approaches the player can take to any given situation. It's pretty much like Bioshock/System Shock and Deus Ex: HR had a baby.

Inventory management works very similar to Human Revolution's, as does the character upgrade system. The player must find - or even create - a special type of item called a "Neuromod" in order to unlock their character's full potential. Near the beginning of the game, the player can only unlock abilities that pertain more towards what a human would be able to achieve, esentially your basic upgrades from any other game: hacking ability, what you can repair, your max health, etc. Prey expands upon this later once the player recieves the "Psychoscope", a headset specifically designed for identifying the alien lifeforms onboard Talos I known as the "Typhon". When you scan a specific Typhon, you begin to unlock the ability to use Neuromods for Typhon abilities. For instance, when you scan a Mimic enough times, you can unlock the ability to turn into any physical object that isn't bolted to the ground, which proves helpful when attempting to hide from tougher enemies or fit into small spaces to grab loot. While these Typhon abilities are powerful, the game adapts to your newfound power by issuing all of the Talos I turrets to begin firing at you on sight, as you now have even more of the Typhon make-up in you.

Even though the combat wasn't my favorite aspect of the game, it really did offer a huge array of unique weapons and tools that catered to many situations. I have to especially praise the most unique tool you stumble across in the game: the GLOO Cannon. A weapon that doesn't inflict damage, but instead fires a quickly-hardening adhesive that can stick to walls, broken pipes, and even enemies. There werre a few times that I'd find myself unable to reach a huge cache of supplies... and that's where the GLOO Cannon came in. Or a Phantom would be causing me grief and keep following me... GLOO. It even works on old work rivals pretty well!

This game is fun and refreshing, even with some cheap-ass jump scares. Also, Mimics suck ass.

8.5/10

Lives in the shadow of its older brother, Human Revolution. Boring characters, pointless choices, and an extremely anticlimactic resolution to the already mediocre plot. Gameplay itself, however, felt much cleaner, with many more weapons (specifically, Augments) in your arsenal to use at your leisure, based on the situation.

5/10.
