As much as I love this game, there’s an ongoing issue with vehicle balance that needs serious attention. War Thunder has always been about authenticity and fair competition, but recent updates have left many players feeling that certain nations, particularly the Soviet tech tree, enjoy more forgiving mechanics and more capable loadouts than others.

One notable example is the recent change to blowout panels. Gaijin explained that blowout panels are designed to “stop fires rather than explosions,” and adjusted their function accordingly. While that reasoning may have internal logic, the change disproportionately affects Western tanks, many of which rely on blowout panels as a key crew survival feature. As a result, Western MBTs now feel less realistic and more fragile compared to their real-world counterparts, while Soviet vehicles, which often use different ammunition stowage methods, were largely unaffected.

The imbalance also extends into certain aircraft and helicopters. Russian platforms such as the Mi-28NM and Su-30SM currently have access to advanced fire and forget missiles, providing strong stand-off capability. Meanwhile, NATO aircraft like the Eurofighter Typhoon are restricted to semi-active laser (SAL) Brimstones, even though real-world version features dual-mode or fire-and-forget guidance systems. Whether this is for balance or technical reasons, it results in a clear disparity in long-range anti-armour capability, and giving NATO vehicles, for example the Typhoon, fire-and-forget missiles, but at a limited quantity, would fix this issue. Russian helicopters, combined with powerful IRCM systems and generous missile loadouts, most often dominate in GRB, while Western vehicles must take greater risks to achieve similar results. For example, the Mi-28NM can fire 8 missiles from its spawn, land, then fire 8 more missiles without much problem in a span of a few minutes. This isn’t necessarily a sign of deliberate bias, but it does show that balance tuning hasn’t kept pace with realism across nations.

I’ve played War Thunder for some time, however, it’s becoming harder to ignore the inconsistencies between nations’ equipment and the way these affect gameplay. Gaijin needs to take a hard look at how the game is being managed. The direction the developers are being pushed in doesn’t seem focused on balance or authenticity anymore, and that needs to change. A shift in management priorities, and maybe even in leadership itself, could help bring War Thunder back to being the fair and genuinely fun game it used to be.

Absolutely love this game. Graphics are alright and the community is ok as well. Can be very fun if you're playing with the right people. 10/10 for me.
