(1/2) Twas a cold, windy night when i met the lad. A chill so deathly it would make your senses pack up and run for the hills was out that night. It was about half past the witching hour, and I was abandoned by my colleagues for a longer night of reveling, one which I had retired from early; newly wedded, my wife awaited my return and a warm embrace. I stood near a dim lamppost, surely past due for decommission, and determined that a carriage would pass by soon enough. The night grew darker still, although the roost would rustle sooner than later.
That is when HE came out of the deep void that now took over the surrounding street, shuffling side to side with a deeply slouched frame, all cloaked in a long black coat. He called himself Steinerbock, and I'm sure he and the proprietor of this page are one and the same. He asked for a match first, before smelling me up and down as if to conceive a friend or enemy. Then nodding quickly at me, he quietly muttered in a deep, guttural tone,

(2/2) probably in some pagan language. At this point of the arrangement, I should have taken my leave to another street corner, but the chill in the air had already taken my senses halfway up the country and through Austria. This is when it happened. I turned for but a moment, glancing desperately past the flurry of snow and for a carriage that did not exist. In this moment, Steinerbock let out a howl, now unclothed from his coat, only a loose loincloth left in it's absence. He beat his chest before jabbering wildly and pushing me down into the snow, then snatching up my briefcase in his mouth, and dashing away on all fours back into the shadows. By god's good grace, I returned home to my wife not but an hour after the incident. But I will never forget it. Even now, when I feel the frigid air creeping through the windowsill, I shudder, thinking that Steinerbock is still out there prowling, lurking in the recess of our world. Be warned, one and all, be warned.
