As someone who generally enjoyed the previous DLCs, this feels incredibly weak. The new area looks huge but much like base game Neerud, it's mostly empty and looks pretty much identical throughout. There's also a completely uninspired glider mechanic that seems like it only exists to make the DLC appear bigger than it actually is. The new dungeons range from mid to just downright awful, the highlight being one you have to rush your way through to avoid being killed by poison gas. Lastly, two of three of the bosses are just souped up versions of the basic enemies you encounter throughout the DLC. Not memorable at all.

This game is pretty good actually. Is it $60 or even $30 good? Probably not, but it's absolutely worth picking up on sale. My only gripes are that the game is really short and that there's not enough combos, which makes the combat feel pretty simplistic. Don't go in expecting a lot of depth or you'll be disappointed.

One of the biggest steals on Steam for the price, even if you don't like Metroidvanias. The one thing holding this game back from being truly great, however, is the map. The current implementation is primitive to say the least.

This game obviously has heart and so it pains me to leave a poor review, but I bought it because it’s marketed as an RPG, and it just isn’t a very good one. To be clear, I didn’t go in expecting a ton of depth, but the mechanics are so shallow that they seem to exist purely for show. The combat is simplistic, trivial, and unrewarding. And there is no meaningful way to build your character, with skills mainly governing whether you can open locked doors.

The real strong suit of this game is its writing and world building, and I think if it had been marketed as what I think it actually is, a “story-driven adventure” (i.e. “walking simulator”), I probably wouldn’t have had any complaints.

DD2 was my most anticipated video game sequel of all time, and I’m sad to say it will probably go down as the most disappointing of all time. After all of the promises of this game “realizing the true vision” of the original, what we got feels like some sort of cruel joke.

When you peel back the impressive new graphics and animations, DD2 does almost nothing to improve upon the previous game in any meaningful way. You can name virtually any flaw, from the poor enemy variety to the single save system, and the chances are that it was one of the very same that held DD1 back from being a true masterpiece 12 years ago.

To make matters worse, there is almost nothing truly new in this game beyond a different map and a slightly different story. Too many enemies are simply 1:1 copies of those from the original game, and most of the vocations have not only been copied over, but in some cases dumbed down - going from 6 slottable skills to just 4.

I could go on for hours about my problems with DD2, but at the end of the day, is it a bad game? Absolutely not. Is it something people will actually remember years from now? I don’t think so.

Legitimately one of the worst games I've ever played.

The performance is absolutely abysmal. The devs have apparently learned nothing from launch. The content itself isn't terrible, but it's very short and pretty underwhelming if, like me, you've already finished the base game multiple times.

When you start this game off, it feels like there's so much to do to the point that it's overwhelming. Gradually you realize that outpost building is completely worthless, every planet has a carbon copy of one of several preset dungeons, and there's only about 5 major questlines. Almost everything else is just pure filler. Seriously, go do all of those "activities" that have no doubt piled up in your quest log after finishing the MQ. My personal favorite is the "Heart of Mars," where the entire mission involves visiting an empty cave and mining a single piece of ore.

The core gameplay mechanics are pretty solid but beyond that there's not much holding this game together. The level design is incredibly basic, the "story" may as well not exist, weapon variety is extremely limited, and there's not much replayability to speak of.

Is this the closest to a new FEAR we'll probably ever get? Yes. Is it the sequel we've been waiting for. Absolutely not.
