A pretty straight-forward review.

If you like car combat, going fast, or WH40K, you'll like it. Just keep in mind it is in early access for a reasons (there's some jank that devs are aware of and plan to fix.)

Real excited to see what the future holds for this one!

Edit as of May 6th, 2024:

Sony reversed course on having a PSN requirement, so it only seems fair to change my previously negative review into a positive one.

It truly is a great game, and hopefully the devs can recover from this debacle.

An immensely jank, but just as immensely fun social horror game. I think the best way to describe it would be a mixture of Deep Rock Galactic and SCP: Containment Breach. You mix those two, and you get some hilarious chaos. Personal notes myself on what I think could be added:

1. More monsters/surprises (but I'm certain the creator already knows and is working on that.)
2. Some minor potential fixes and QoL changes. I think one thing that should be done is at the end of quota cycle, it should default send you to the Company to sell your stuff. I think this could stop griefers (or just generally dummies like myself who didn't know the first time) from potentially ruining runs because you didn't send the coordinates for it prior.

Other than that, very excited for what the future holds!

Tackling this review with by giving this statement -- this game feels like a Capcom game you'd find at an arcade. For a lot of folks, that is an immense positive, but I'd also argue it could be a detriment. I'll cover a few things in-depth.

+ The combat/shooting feels immensely satisfying. Same with movement. Everything just feels so nice and tightly controlled.
+ A lot of the classes/exos are all fun to play in their own right (especially Witch Doctor, it's always a great feeling when support is actually fun/viable in these types of games).
+ The visuals are awesome. The suits are designed well. Dinosaurs look awesome. Great style!
+ Despite all the chaos, and having played this both on my PC and Xbox Series console, game runs superb. No dropped frames, no hitches in networking, everything ran smooth like butter. If anything, this game at least will serve as a testament to the magic that is the RE Engine.

? I find the lack of auto-attack/holding a button down to attack a bit odd. But I think that'll be an easy addition/fix.

- The PVPVE segment is...jarring. I found this fun myself, but I think it could be rough for people that may not like PVP (As a Sea of Thieves player, I know what it's like for a community to beg for PVP and PVE to be separated). I'm sure you'll add this option/mode at full release, but I am a bit surprised this was not considered beforehand.
- Online only kind of stinks. I have to give a negative for that, especially at a time when a lot of other fun games have met their demise the past month/year.

? Lot of repetition. I won't list this as a negative because there's some games that are repetitive as heck that are fun (Deep Rock Galactic, Killing Floor 2, etc). It's more so just a warning of telling folks what to expect -- this really feels like an Arcade game that is extremely straightforward.
? I think this game is gonna live or die based on support and monetization direction taken. I do think Capcom is walking on eggshells by releasing a game that's both full-priced AND is known to be having battle passes to it. I hope they do take some of that into consideration come launch day. Who knows though, I think the fact they released a beta almost half a year away from its release is a good sign that they'll maybe re-examine some things down the line.

For now tho, I give it a light recommendation. Let's hope the final release addresses some of these issues!

This holds quite a bit of promise. I like how easy it is to get in, join a match, and play. No match ever feels pretty long. I think it's got that nice Splatoon-esque formula of just having these simple, fairly quick matches.

That said, like others have mentioned, I would absolutely not add voice/text chat considering the community that followed this game (LoL). Save everyone that headache (plus I feel like most folks are likely to just group up in a call these days with friends to play).

I'll end this with some pros and cons, and maybe a few suggestions (+, -, ~)

+ Nice designs!
+ Simple but engaging/addictive gameplay!
+ Pretty smooth code, haven't had any major connection issues so far.

- Controller support needs to be fixed (but again these are probably issues that are being looked into right now)
- I do hope some of the voice acting improves. I don't think it's awful like some folks have said, but some characters do sound a bit rough compared to others.

~ I'm sure this is already on the cards somewhere, but if we do get console releases, cross-progression/play has gotta be there day one. Could help the game grow immensely.
~ Maybe some very basic log-in rewards? (like a small amount of coins -- I imagine the roster will balloon out some so it'd be a nice way to help folks maybe catch up later on in the game's life).
~ Kind of hard to say things when we're not sure what we're getting, but I think maybe dynamic/energized music at certain portions of the match would be kind of cool (like if it's a match point round or something).

But yeah, hoping the best for you devs, I think you got something really nice on your hands here.

A great game...so long as you say screw the meta, and try things outside of it.

Like a lot of folks trying this game out, I too was a lapsed Yu-Gi-Oh! fan from back in the day. I find it this incredibly addicting and fun!

That said, YGO as a game has changed immensely in the past 15 or so years. There's going to undoubtedly be new cards, new rules, new mechanics -- and for the most part, the new stuff is relatively straight forward.

But I do notice that some of my more engaging duels are actually ones where my opponent and I have these intense back-and-forth thrillers where we're both not sure who is going to win. A lot of it comes down to the wire, and I genuinely enjoy that. (For context, I run a Ghostrick beatdown deck, it's a very unconventional but fun deck).

I know there's going to be folks that want to build some sort of OTK deck with like 50 combo summonings and all, which is fine, but gosh there's SO much more to this game when you got an evenly-matched opponent that can play and must try to out play. It's definitely worth exploration too when the franchise has given folks THOUSANDS of cards to work with.

To kind of sum up my thoughts, will give some bullet points:

PROS:
+ Pretty fun, exciting game play!
+ Lovely artwork, would like if more summoning animations for other cards.
+ Variety of cards with which to make different decks.
+ The Solo duels/modes have been quite enjoyable in artwork, lore, and music.
+ Cross-progression/cross-play is greatly enjoyed! I love being able to switch from PC to just lying in bed, playing on my Xbox.

CONS:
- I think the amount of gems/crafting resources could be upped a little bit. Maybe not a one-for-one conversion, but I think two cards should be able to fetch you one, at the least, rather than 3.
- I know it's coming, but I'm hoping an Exhibition mode is added soon (because trying to navigate current rooms to do Casual matches is a bit of a hassle right now -- a "Quick Match" option should have honestly launched Day 1 right along side Ranked). I think that'd be a great place to see a variety of decks rather than the currently heralded meta we're seeing now in Ranked.

Have dabbled a little bit so far, but I do like it. Quite a lot, actually!

It feels weird to see folks complaining about the Premium DLC when like even the original announcement mentioned that the private party stuff would be locked behind it. Even then if you do end up buying it, you not only get the ability to do that but also you do gain access to the special character Bombermen, too. I don't think it's too egregious (especially considering we're talking about Konami here of all folks).

That out of the way, I do have one notable complaint that a few others are sharing: the load times. I'm sure this will be fixed up over time, but it is one of those things that users are facing (even on the new next-gen consoles with faster SSDs). The game is fun, but the time it takes currently to get into a new match is a bit lengthy. Again, I'm sure it'll be fixed, but I just want folks to have note of it.

Closing notes here will just kinda mention that I know folks want to be able to squad up and kill folks together, but I genuinely don't think this type of game was built for that. Much like in the same way Mario 35, Pac-Man and Tetris Battle Royale do it. I'd like for there to be some sort of big team rumble even down the line, but I'd have no idea how one would even implement it to where it'd be remotely balanced.

If you're looking for a BR with squads and stuff, this isn't your game. But if you're looking for a fun, simple, solo experience, then I think you'll like this a lot.

Early Access Review
Having bought and played this recently, I will say this is certainly one of the most polished early-access games I've come across. It has both a cool concept, interesting design choices, and engaging social gameplay if you decide to play with your friends!

If you're either burnt out or jaded by the recent wave of Hero Shooters, Battle Royales, eSports, and all those other type of games being pushed hard as such, I recommend this. This game gives off a good feeling of yester-year where there were strong co-op games such as Left 4 Dead where it's you and your bros just duking it out against environments and the horrors that lurk in them.

The only irksome thing that might halt some folks from buting is that the content is a bit barebones right now, but watching the devs on their Twitter and other various platforms, it sounds like they have a determined, steady path on what they want this game to become.

If you want to wait for a sale or for further updates, totally up to you, but even then I'll still heavily recommend this. I think it's got a strong future and it's genuinely great to see such a potential co-op game being made.

Until then, ROCK N' STONE.

I normally don’t write reviews for certain things unless I feel like that thing is worth talking about – whether it’s good or bad. And with the game I recently played and finished today, Undertale, I can most certainly say that is is genuinely good. But how good is good?

Good enough for me to claim that not only is it going to be in my top list for 2015, I’ll even go as far to say that it just might be one of the best RPGs I have ever played. And that’s me admitting a lot because over the course of recents years, I’ve been finding myself shying away from the genre in general (I’m a person who likes platforming and action games, myself). I still play a few every now and then, but it’s a very slim number.

However, with this game (given to me by my friend on my birthday) I found myself addicted to its eccentric, yet witty dialogue; its great characters; and it’s simplistic style. I absolutely enjoy when people can make the simplest things work (and in some cases, making that less seem like more), which is something I felt when looking at the overall look of the game from its NPCs, backgrounds, tiles, character designs, and more. This is definitely one of those games that has a substance that even some bigger RPGs can’t match. This game doesn’t need over-designed outfits laced with as many buckles and spiked hair styles as possible, this game doesn’t need next generation graphics to capture the imagination and wonder of its players, and it certainly doesn’t need a super, dark story line which wants to be described and seen as “cinematic”. Everything in this game works, sounds (speaking of which, big props to the soundtrack - it’s absolutely bloody amazing!), and feels right.

Of course, this game is not without its flaws. No game ever really is. With me though, I do admit that the main source of my frustration mostly came from the perfect pacifist run. Which, I’d like to add, is very, very tough. So while I did feel angry about it at first and felt there were some “cheapness” to it, I’ve had time to process all of these emotions and thoughts, and felt a lot of these things were justified. After all, games do need a challenge. Other than these thoughts, everything else shines through and though.

To cap off this little review, I’m going to straight up say that if you’re looking for a great RPG that’ll have staying power for a long time to come, I highly recommend it. If you’re looking for a RPG with great characters and quirky dialogue, I highly recommend it. If you’re looking for a game where you can date a skeleton, I highly recommend it.

> Play the game with friend on Skype as we voice chat.
> We go to the level with the trapdoors and the piano.
> Friend and I proceed to hide near piano.
> Two minutes in, all seems well until eventually the ghost signals get too strong.
> I eventually lose my sh.it and book it like lightning, eventually getting to a room to hide in the air vent.
> A few second pass and nothing seems to happen.
> "Dude, I'm still near the piano safe as can be, why did you-"
> Eventually his talking turns into screams of terror as I hear him getting reaped over his headset.
> I have a strong urge to go to the bathroom.
> "Man, I died. Did he get you too?"
> My friend forget he can check tab to see if someone is still alive or not.
> I activate my pokerface.
> "Yeah, unfortunately. He got me too dude."
> Eventually time passes until there is literally one minute left in the game and I'm the only one alive.
> "Man, I can't find this guy. Have you seen him?"
> Time is about to run out.
> "H-heeey. Remember when I said I was dead..."
> Friend figures it out.
> He proceeds to go crazy trying to hunt me.
> He sees me at the very last second as I'm running and the time runs out.
> He proceeds to call me a sh.it-lord throughout the rest of the night as we play as I keep having a huge grin on my face.

10/10, would be a sh.itlord to my friend again
