After playing Final Fantasy XIV for “a couple” hours now, I figured that it would be a good idea to see where everything started, and thanks to these lovely Pixel Remasters of the first few Final Fantasy games, it is easier than ever to do.

Overview
As all the other classic Final Fantasy games, FF IV is a turned based jrpg with a huge open world and not too much guidance. Since it’s a rpg from the “old days” it expects you to talk to NPC’s to find out where to go and to explore its world. Which has its charm but can certainly be challenging if you haven’t played a game like this before.
(But in case you get lost, there are guides, so don’t let this discourage you from enjoying this great game.)

Story
Once again it falls to you and your party to save the world from evil and corruption. Someone is collecting all the powerful crystals for an unknown goal, all you know is that you have to put an end to the killing and fighting and stop whatever doom looms in the distance.

While, like always, I don’t want to say too much to the story, FF IV is so far my favorite. If you are like me a FFXIV players, lets say you will meet enemies from the post Endwalker content.

Gameplay
After a brief intro and learning the very basics of the combat system, the world is yours to explore within certain limitations. Monsters don’t scale with your level (thankfully) so I can happen that you run into monsters which you aren’t ready for yet.
Like in most classic Role-Playing-Games you level up through combat, find new gear, new key items through quests, and unlock new skills and meet new party members along the way. One of the benefits of this system is, that if you hit a little wall, you can always just go and grind monsters for an extra level or two and overcome the wall. You never really get stuck. I still recommend saving often and to do so on more than one save file, just to be sure.
Final Fantasy IV introduces some new elements to the combat, of which I’m a huge fan of. Each party member has an energy bar which slowly fills and only then you can do an action, in this way the fights feel like a mix of round-based combat, mixed in with some light element of real time combat. This system works really well and made the fights much more enjoyable to me personally.
Another difference is that, beside summons, your party members learn new abilities by leveling up and you cannot choose your party members like in previous games.
Your setup changes depending on your story progress and characters you meet. While this at first sounds like a downgrade, it is well balanced and worked well for me in every combat encounter.

Features
-A huge open world
-Lots and lots of enemy variety
-Tons of different spells, gear and weapons
-Lots of dungeons with different themes and creative challenges
-Boss Battles of which most offer their unique challenges and twists
-Modern, optional, comfort features, like quick saving at any point and more

Graphic/Audio/Tech
For the Tech, I had zero issues, no stutters no crashes, the game is perfectly optimized for modern PC’s

On the graphic side, if you enjoy pixel art, this game looks fantastic. The world is full of wonders, and the sprite art is great. Enemies, Combat backdrops, and dungeons in general offer so much variety in their optic. The spells especially look fantastic when used, and you won’t grow bored of looking at them.

The soundtrack of Final Fantasy III is still a feast for your ears, it’s really amazing how much they managed to do with the tools they had back in the day.

Final Thoughts
If you like older jrpgs or are a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise and haven’t played this game yet, I can only recommend it. The world is huge and offers a lot of variety, the combat system is a lot of fun and it’s all packed into a good story that keeps you hooked from start to finish.
It maybe takes a while to get the hang on it, but it is absolutely worth doing so.

And if you are a Final Fantasy XIV player like me, you will discover so many places, and meet npcs and enemies which also exist in FFXIV, it will put some smiles on your face and provide a lot of “ahhhh” moments.

Far Cry 3 is still an amazing open world shooter, with one of the best- and well-known Villains, a huge, and very pretty map, great gunplay, tons of side missions and activities and lots to explore and find.
If you haven’t played this one and you enjoy first person shooters, you own it to yourself to give it a go. Some things seem silly now 13years after its release, and while the game loses some traction in the last third of its runtimes, it is a great, action filled and fun experience from start to finish.

Pixplode is a physics bases puzzle game with a cool perspective mechanic.
Your goal is always the same, bring the yellow cube on the green platform. You do this by exploding red blocks to move around other blocks to push the yellow cube.
Sounds simple, but it, of course, becomes more complex with time, especially thanks to the perspective mechanic.
You can view each puzzle from different directions, and the blocks act based on how the puzzle looks from each view. For example. The yellow cube is sitting on another block from your current perspective, but once you change it there isn’t a block anymore below the yellow cube, so it will fall down, and now if you go back, it will be hidden from your view.
This mechanic adds an interesting twist to each puzzle and I personally really enjoyed that.
Can recommend to the game to every puzzle game fan.

DEEP SPACE CACHE is a simple and relaxing incremental game.
You fly around, shoot asteroids, upgrade your ship in the skill tree with resources from the asteroids, to shoot asteroids more efficiently, to gain resources quicker – repeat. It is good fun for 2-3 hours and that is all the game wants to be.
For the low price it costs, its good fun and I can absolutely recommend it.

Dead Living Zombies is, something? It definitely is some kind of dlc?
While the base idea of a less creative guy invading the privacy of film directors to tell them about his “amazing” pitch for a new Zombie Movie is fun, and you playing through his pitches is a good reason to just make some individual stages, the good of the dlc ends there.
The levels aren’t big, the zombies are oddly tanky and it just doesn’t feel good or fun to play. In each level you must destroy zombie spawners and that’s kinda it for the most part. One level has a driving section which is the small highlight of the dlc.
Beside that they added some absolutely obnoxious extra tanky enemies which are just no fun to fight.

The biggest atrocity the dlc commits thou is for players who want to complete all Achievements. There is one to kill 5000 Zombies, and while you play through the dlc, and even finish gold on the score attack mode, you maybe kill 500 at most. Maybe 600 on the high end. So, whoever came up with the idea to make it 5000 must have had a bad Monday in my opinion or they pet died…

At no offense to the devs, you guys didn’t made Left4Dead3. No one wants to play through these stages over and over again for fun…

Lost on Mars is a sillier story addition which doesn’t take itself too seriously.
You get beamed to Mars, to fight a race of Arachnids in the name of an AI that promises you to help you defend earth against these would be invaders.
What I personally like about the dlc is that the tower climbing to remove the fog of war from the map is back. I oddly missed that in the maingame.
There are laser guns, lower gravity, you get a jetpack to make long jumps, all you need for a space adventure.

Overall, this dlc is a solid 5/10. It isn’t fantastic, but it also doesn’t offend with its quality. If you got it has part of the Gold Edition, it is worth playing it.

I wouldn’t recommend the full price thou in case you are thinking about an individual purchase.

Hours of Darkness is my personal favorite DLC for FC5. It takes place in the Vietnam War, and you play as a soldier that needs to get back to their base to escape the jungle after their Helicopter got shot down. The dlc has a lot of focus on stealth, but once you got an arsenal together you can also go in guns blazing. For me going the sneaky route just felt better and added to the experience of jungle warfare.
The dlc plays like Far Cry ofc, you find camps and infiltrate them, free follow soldiers and prisoner, destroy objectives and if you choose so, find collectibles.

Overall, an enjoyable experience.
