A lot like the DESCENT series which was made by the same people 24 years earlier. I liked the variety of weapons (though not as large as Descent 2 or 3 but more than Descent 1). My main complaints are about the upgrades - I couldn't find enough in my first play-through (though this is now solvable because the community post has all locations), and also the fact that the two versions of fully upgraded weapons are mutually exclusive (otherwise there would be more variety than Descent 2 and 3). The level editor was something I really immersed myself in in 2018 and made a few levels using some I had made for Descent 1 or 2 in 2006 (as well as Titan Core and an Overload version of Tethys Mine, which by the way is possible on Insane but just extremely hard to avoid getting blown up at the very beginning - I have done it). I had ideas for a six-level campaign which I hope to complete sometime - currently the first 2 levels are complete and the third is somewhat done and accessible if you can find where people upload campaigns (I remade the Silph Co 3D maze at the start and put a few things in). There is still some material from 2006 to use but I came across the fact that too many cubes were still needed in Level 4 and somehow lost my motivation, but hey, maybe it will come back in 2030 as it took 12 years last time. Also I am very bad at Multiplayer but maybe it was because I had not found how to enable trichording at the time.

Very good reformat of the game. Recommended especially if you have played the normal version. It's easy to get the music to work, you just find someone's link to the plain ogg files on Steam Discussions and copy it to the folder in the Quake 2 RTX baseq2 music directory (not the normal Quake 2 baseq2 music directory) - that is the only catch.

Definitely an improvement over the old one, especially after the latest update (late June 2020). The only "exploit" they seem to have phased out fully is the ability to sell people using sandbags, which while it does sound immoral, was also a key way to get both factions' tech trees in Nod Mission 8 if played right (I'm not up to that yet so maybe there is still a way).

Currently at low levels and it's a really awesome challenge (especially V levels). I have Just seen an online technique called mana harvesting and creating perfect gems, which add more elements and make it so it won't take forever to reach really high levels (e.g. in the 1000s) and explore the game's potential.
