Unnecessary Intro

I have played DinoRun –also a Pixeljam game- and, although I did enjoy it for a while, I honestly would not call myself a great fan. But this game was different, mainly because it was not as much about gaming experience but on how it is presented to the player.

Potatolosophistica

With an existential approach from its very beginning, this is a very nice piece of code for entertainment purposes. Yes, that is my just mae up definitioa definition of #videogames , so, #micdrop . (picks mic up again, very humbled but secure)

This game was pretty short and pretty well written. It is a platformer and only 3 buttons will work, and that includes the cursor. So very basically it is left right and jump Still, I tat doesn’t stop me from stating to like this game. Finished it in around 30 minutes, stayed around for longer for the cards, and even though I got impatient due to continued failure on my part to handle the aforementioned 3 buttons. So I finished it this game with the second run. It has a time attack mode, which seemed useless the first time the game loaded, and somewhat teasing at the end of the game.

During gameplay the element of surprise is played with a special flavor of mastery. It is odd yet strangely familiar. I think that what this game does particularly well is to exploit the usual foreseeable scenarios or game sets of platformers, which will one way or another be familiar and inspired by the usual approach of the famous Italian plumbers. This game, of course, has some of the same elements which make it immediately relatable as the average platformer. Then it will surprise in the first 10 seconds, and yes, you will die. But you will overcome such digital deaths because it will be worth it.

Its rather odd sense of humor acompanies perfectly. It is not ofte I get some laughs from a game which is as short as this one.

The Overall goods n bads

The game has a good feel visually, movement does make sense and represent the retro-style of the game. Game was bugged one or two times for me, and had to wait or restart it from a certain point, but that did not really affect my opinion of it. So, what can be done on this game for it to be improved? I think perhaps make it a little bit longer, but I also think that perhaps the Potatoman journey was planned like this.

As a platformer

Es a 8-bit inspired game this platformer delivers what it is supposed to, and a bit extra with a very creative story-line I saw a lot of rage comments due to the randomness at some points. I understand that perhaps for a player which is in for it to finish it asap, and really normally flashes and/or skips through all the texts of games, this kind of surprise factor in a platformer must be sort of irritating. Still, my opinion is that it would be unfair to judge every game for such factors. The game definitely has the randomness subject of fellow reviewers’ disappointment, but it also has great style when doing so.

The Trailer

A special shout-out for one of the best game trailers out there. Probably the best for a 8-bit styled game. It was directed and written with a take as absurd as the script of the game itself….which makes it great, at least in my humble opinion. You check it out here on the game’s store page on Steam, follow this Youtube link.

The company behind the game

Pixeljam was founded in around 2005 and is set to “explore the limits of the low-resolution style” according to their own Patreon Site[www.patreon.com]. They seem to be based out in Chicago, Illinois. They currently do not seem to have a similar game in development and a follow up to this game does not seem to be planned. So, please, kindly, send them some hate until they eventually do.

If you can not unlock the Droggeljug achievement after playing the whole game in this mode, or using a saved file at the end of the game, try to follow this steps. This method worked for me. ;D. This guide is an English translation of my original guide in

Thinking about starting a group of mid aged gamers :painting: (probably older gamers, as there is no real gamer generation before us, I THINK). Send an and/or Add. Cheers!:Djoe:
