Just to put it into perspective, this game has:

- Rollback netcode
- A training mode with frame advantage, dummy replay, and CPU "if-then" settings
- A fun gameplay loop
- A team of passionate creators behind it
- Good advertising, appeals well to the VTuber market

And it's all for free.

Six years ago, and even today, you couldn't even ask a full-price AAA fighting game to have all of this at launch.

Given the recent shutdown of Tango Gameworks, the developers behind this divine masterpiece, I wanted to talk about what specifically turns Hi-Fi RUSH from a 4/5 into a 5/5.

It's not the visuals. It's not the storyline. It's not the cool characters. It's the fact that, despite everything that could go wrong with a "rhythm-based hack and slash", Hi-Fi RUSH completely dodges every mark and powers through.

Input lag? Animations snap to the beat, letting less rhythmically-skilled individuals enjoy the game just as much as your Hakitas.
Repetition? There's a streamer mode that you can toggle on and off that effectively gives you two of every boss theme.
Impacts? The most powerful swings are the most powerful. This isn't a Chinese gacha disguised as a whatever, where effects can easily feel terrible once the next weekly update comes out. This is the whole game.

And the game feel is... The game feels good. It's one of the best hack and slash games I've ever played, and I've only ever played Metal Gear Rising, Devil May Cry 1, and Ultrakill and Yakuza if you can count those. There's something so visceral and satisfying about how each hit can link together perfectly, about how the player can maintain a long combo string through power and power alone, about how they can simultaneously feel like a god and having just skid by death.

Calling Tango's shutdown a travesty would be a complete understatement. Play this game. I don't care if there's Denuvo. Play the f--- game. Play it. Just do it.

Okay, look. I'm no JDCR. I'm barely a LowTierGod. But something that Tekken just excels at is making you feel like you're doing at least something as a new player.

My personal favourite fighting games are fast-paced, 2D anime airdashers. I'm talking Guilty Gear Xrd, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Among Us Arena (which is a real game). These games are hard to figure out as a new player. You've got cancel systems that let you go one way but not the other, instant air dashes, crossups, super jumps, homing dash attacks, dustloops, tier lists, and so much more jargon to wrap your head around.

Even just playing the game at a basic level is difficult. A lot of these games demand constant attention from both players, mindgames, knowledge checks, matchup spreads. You can go back to Super Turbo and get your bananas kicked in by someone who's been playing the game for a few months.

Tekken? Nah.

You wanna mash? Sure. Your jab is fast, safe, and pretty non-committal, so you can annoy people until they sidestep. Then keep jabbing.
You wanna do combos? Hold LB and time left punch, right punch, and left kick in sequential order. That's it. It's an autocombo, but it feels good.
On low health? You've got Rage that lets you deal more damage, or you can spend it all on a big combo or once-per-round super move that gets rid of said Rage.

Despite what many might think, the game's actually really good for beginners because it's just so fun, even when you're just messing around. Again, I'm no Knee, but over the 9 hours I've played of this game, it just keeps getting better and better.

9/10.

Also, I know Tekken 8 is out still, but port Tag 2 to PC, please.

If you're gonna buy this game, then get the one called "GUILTY GEAR Xrd -REVELATOR- (+DLC Characters) + REV 2 All-in-One (does not include optional DLCs)". Everything else is either a scam or outdated.

UPDATE: Game's getting rollback, so I might as well make a genuine review for this;

The game's good. Like, really really good. Stylistically, it's goofing amazing, and has one of the most crisp yet fluid animation I've ever seen. It's not even 2D, either - it's 3D using special effects to make it look 2D.

The gameplay, despite being stupidly hard to master, is actually pretty easy for new players to get into. There's an optional "Stylish" mode that lets you create your own combos just by mashing buttons, and a lot of the characters have pretty simple gameplans (Sol wants to pressure the enemy, Potemkin wants to grab the enemy, Axl wants to stay away, etc).

The community? Eh. It's not nearly as big as Strive's, but you can sometimes get a game if you look for players (LOOK IN "PLAYER LOBBIES" NOT ANYTHING ELSE).

Overall, it's a really nice fighting game that lets you learn the basics of what an Anime Fighter has to offer. 10/10.

UPDATE 2: Just get the one called "Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2". Don't bother with the deluxe version.

Early Access-recension
ULTRAKILL is a game that I physically cannot recommend enough.

What makes ULTRAKILL such an enjoyable experience isn't its insane style, deep substance, stylized PS1-like visuals, or beautiful story that you can unravel via carefully crafted environments and numerous info dumps scattered around the world. It's how Hakita and his team weaves it all together in a beautifully created single-player campaign that could put most AAA titles to shame.

As stated in the About section of the store page:
"Mankind has gone extinct and the only beings left on earth are machines fueled by blood.
But now that blood is starting to run out on the surface...
Machines are racing to the depths of Hell in search of more."

What the game withholds from this description is that there's a broken realm left untouched for presumably centuries for you, the player, to explore through the eyes and body of V1. A machine whose prime directive is to acquire a weapon and fuel. A machine who will stop at nothing to keep itself alive by any means possible.

Through this realm, one can find a tale of fallen angels, morally distraught kings, abandoned search and recover projects, and layers upon layers of conflict between Heaven and Hell. But I'm not telling you a single speck of what actually happens in the game.

You've gotta play it yourself. Play the damn game. It's so good.

Dusk isn't a game that does anything new or revolutionary. Its graphics are reminiscent of classic Quake titles, and its gameplay is barebones and unassuming at first glance.

What it doesn't do is waste your time.

It's a game that focuses on giving you the best possible boomer shooter experience. It's a game that knows what it wants to do, and does it well. It trims down all the fat that FPS games don't need and condenses it into thirty maps, each with their own theme and identity.

You'll find yourself bunny-hopping like mad trying to get yourself back to where you were, scavenging for endless secrets, fending off against hordes of monsters... or fellow players. It's the epitome of the Doom-likes, and I mean that in one of the most polite, honest ways possible.

4/5. Hell yeah.

I don't like Counter-Strike 2.

I know this might be a silly thing to put at the start of my review, but as of right now, there is virtually nothing to do besides the main competitive modes.

[] The server browser is tucked away into a corner, using the brand new Valve layout and separate application instead of having a built-in mechanism like Team Fortress.
[] There's no silly tutorial mode like Global Offensive, so new players are left to the mercy of whatever Valve has going on with Training Day which is - in my opinion - inferior to the GO tutorial.
[] The side content is slim to none, only featuring hostage maps, wingman, arms race and the workshop. And even then, the workshop mostly consists of practice maps, aim maps, warmup maps, and ported content from Global Offensive's prime.
[] Everything is being centered around the core gameplay of CS, which isn't a bad idea, but it's a shame that there isn't anything fun for those who just want a quick kick of dopamine with friends.

Does this mean CS2 is worthless, dogwater competitive garbage? No. It's a fun game.

CS2 has one of the most finely tuned shooting mechanics in any video game. The recoil is consistent and unique to each gun which makes every new strategy, every possible combination of events something to learn and master. Just because I want some fun stuff in CS2 doesn't mean it's a horrible excuse of a shooter.

If you want a game that values your time and effort, play CS2. It's free, it's fun, it'll teach you stuff you should know about every game (not just shooters). CS:GO is still up and running - it's just on legacy mode. Don't worry, surfers and bunnyhoppers will have their fun, too.
