When I review video games, I review them not as products, or services, or experiences. I review them as video games, because that's what they are - they're meant to be played, explored, mastered, taken from. I don't consider what the developer's done in the past, either - unless it's clear that the developer's evil intentions and motives seep into the game itself, I don't judge a developer based on what else they've done. Separate art from artist is my motto.

With that said, this game just sucks hot ass.

Unapologetically mediocre. Nightmare Kart's only things that it's got going for it is that it was made by the PSX goth transbian furry yeag girl, and that it's Bloodborne on Steam before Bloodborne on Steam. But that's... That's genuinely it.

  • The visuals feel gaudy in a sense that it's either too classic or too modern with no inbetween. The default settings for the game give you a PS1-inspired look and feel, but I turned it off immediately because it just felt... wrong.
  • The controls are clunky, making fights feel way worse than they should be. The Father Gregory fight in particular is something I'm just not fond about. The AI can range from "annoyingly hard" to "child's play" with seemingly no inbetween.
  • The menus and settings menus are barebones. This is a nitpicky thing, but control rebinding should have been standardized - nay, mandatory - once the PS2 era hit. It just makes personalizing your experience so much worse.

I don't actually care about Bunlith or Ms. Walker or whoever being trans. But I'm just disappointed that she could have done better, that she could have given 4chan a reason to not be extremist all the time.

2/5. I'm sorry, but this has untapped potential. :(
