"Create alliances with other players and form a town." stfu Facepunch lol. Nobodys making a town in rust.

Rust is a "suvival" game in that you need food and water or youll die, have to manage your temperature or die, but it's hardly about all that serious stuff.
Rust is not something one should ever take serious. It is about blowing peoples "town" attempts up, blowing everything that isnt yours up, shooting it, harrassing and verbally abusing it as its dying(or, sometimes, as youre dying.lol) The cool thing about this genre is how dynamic it is. If you get shot down and the guy comes over and you happen to get along he may revive you...or you can just shout profanities and wait to be shot again.
The crafting system is similar to other genre games. You wont be building anything beautiful here though. All buildings look like ass, and if you did make it look nice itd be kicked down and blown up in 2 minutes simply because of that fact you tried to make it look nice. On the flip side the gun play is far better than with games like Ark. Like SO MUCH better. I like that you can only use 1st person too, and cant turn gamma up in game.
graphics are beautiful but the aesthetic of the game isnt a visual one, its more of a sentiment, and that sentiment is "♥♥♥♥ you." Those two words comprise the basis for everything you do and have done to you almost. from the first moment, youre being killed by people with bows while you have a rock...because ♥♥♥♥ you. So you spawn again, and begin making a bow, because..."♥♥♥♥ you right back sir". You build a base not for visual appeal, but because if you didnt, thats a big ♥♥♥♥ you waiting to happen. You build it and begin crafting explosives and gathering gun blueprints etc, so you can walk out that door and deliver a ♥♥♥♥ you to eveyrone you see along the way to a base you also say ♥♥♥♥ you too.
THATS THE GAME. NOTHING MORE. It doesnt try to be anything more. Theres no expansive pve content or bosses to fight. In Rust, all that matters is the "♥♥♥♥ you", avoiding it and delivering it. This is exponentially more fun to do with friends, kinda meh by yourself.
If you cant take people shouting racist stuff, or the worst stuff youve generally ever heard(or never heard) in your life, then this is not the game for you, snowflake. Just as saving the princess is a staple of mario, 12 year olds running around like little white supremacists and yelling hateful ♥♥♥♥ as they kill you is a staple of rust lol.

For me, it lacks enough content to keep me playing longer than a couple hours. Theres really nothing to do except defend from "♥♥♥♥ you"s and farm to deliver "♥♥♥♥ you"s via rockets or bullets, and it gets old quick. If youre into the raiding of Ark or ruining peoples day by blowing their ♥♥♥♥ up(which can be fun, sure), then buy this.

Early Access Review
An Actually Intelligent Review(since there's so few)

Foreword: A lot of this review will rightly give mention and comparison to and of Ark:Survival Evolved for obvious reasons. IF you have not played Ark then you would likely be better off exiting this games page and going to buy Ark. Similar premise in a different setting with much more content, refinement, and playabillity for the average player. I will explain this in a moment.

Atlas is, as you know, a pirate survival "mmo" game by grapeshot(AKA Wildcard. Same Seattle office and everything). If you're not well versed in the going on's of the Ark official community then Official Atlas will be a tough time, very difficult, and cancerous. You wont get a foot hold, you wont get to do much before being wiped...unless you slide your way into a Mega-Company(one of the top companies). See, what had happened was...back on Ark, there were Mega tribes, groups that spanned and ruled many servers. The biggest block to knowing who was truly the Alpha tribe of Ark was that the servers were often split up, unable to access each other because of multiple game modes and server types. Atlas solved that, so now all those players migrated here, along with some new people/groups and that's what Atlas official is all about and tailored for. Those Mega-tribes.
Basically, Atlas Official is basically the super bowl of mega-tribes. If you're not in one, then you're the cleveland browns and you're going to get Tom Bradyd, flat out.
I myself never liked the idea of joining a mega tribe but I play Atlas, so how do I do it? the same way I play Ark: On the unofficial servers. That environment is much better because of the countless choices you have to call"home", every type of server you could want is there. Many of them have mods that enhance gameplay, some have rules in place, and all have Admins that you can communicate with if theres an issue(If you encounter an issue on official-well, tough ♥♥♥♥.
Most importantly about unofficial servers is this: They have higher rates. You can waste hours building a mediocre base and ship on official that will likely be gone in a few days, but on unofficial you can choose 5x, 10x, 25x, 100x, whatever multiplier you want, it's likely there, so you can choose your level of grind. It makes solo or small group playing much more plausible, too.
As for the gameplay itself, it is...Ark, with some new shiny things thrown in, but really It is Ark. All the creatures are reskinned from ark, most items are reskinned from ark, the only TRULY new things are ocean physics, better boat controls, a new melee mechanic, new gun mechanic, a vitamin meter(vitamins too low, you die, vitamins too high you die. simple), and some other gimmicky mini-game stuff tossed in too. So, if you liked Ark you will like this, if you didnt like how Arks gameplay was, then...well this isn't much different. It's not the most intuitive gameplay, nor the most solid but it gets the job done.
How does it run? That depends on your pc. For some it runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, for others(like me) it runs great even with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ computer. It varies greatly.
How does it look?: That ties in with how it runs. If you need to put your stuff on low to run it, it'll look like play-dough and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ had a baby. A fun baby, but it will be ugly. If you play with graphics on high, it isnt state of the art but it's pretty good looking.
Replay Value: It's a game you could play for 1000's of hours potentially, as it has no actual story, each bit of story comes from your interaction with other players, what you chose to do within the world of Atlas. If it's boring, thats on you. If its fun thats largely on you. Theres so much to do and see and learn that you wont master it in 100 hours, that's for sure.

Pros: replay value. The concept of all servers being connected by ocean is great and makes for a massive world to explore. It's the next step up from a cluster server(Ark). I like the mechanics for claiming and land owning/use that's in place. I can't wait to see it be fleshed out more as well. Theres a lot of content already but much more too come which is always great.

Cons: there's no FAST way to do anything, If you have a base halfway across the globe and need to get a ship of resources there then start sailing sailor cause that's the only way to move resources. This is also a pro because in Ark people could upload and download creatures and items/resources anywhere and it was kinda stupid for balance reasons. Some bugs but again, this isn't truly a con because of the next part...

This is the most important part of this review. That in buying this game today, before it is anywhere near release, it is going to have buggy moments. Buggy as hell. Nothing gamebreaking but sometimes you will rage. That is the nature of playing a game in early beta stage. If you cannot handle or comprehend this, then do not buy it. All these angry reviews are the dimwits who do not have a true grasp on this. If you buy a game thats only 50% made, then you should expect such and treat it as such. Simple as that.
With that in mind, knowing what i got myself into, I am happy with Atlas. I am a cheap skate and rarely buy games, but Atlas was worth every penny. At 245.5 hours already clocked I can tell you I already got my moneys worth, and It just released a month ago.

Summary: If you've played Ark.... Official bad. Unofficial Good. Buy game(if you can comprehend what an early access game is), and play unofficial. Be happy(sometimes mad, but it's the nature of the game if you play on PVP servers.
If you have not played Ark....Just go buy that game first, it's the same thing but much better and is a finished game. If you like it then you'll like this, if you don't like it then return it and get neither because you wont like this. Dinos or pirates are irrelevant to what the game really is, which is a completely free sandbox world to do/be whatever you want. It is existing within this virtual world with other inhabitants(players) and your interactions with them(even that interaction is purely just raiding them and hearing their pleas as you pillage their base. You dont have to be buddy with people to enjoy the game is what im saying), everything else like dinos and piracy is secondary.

tl;dr Just buy it. If youre on the fence then you're too poor to be playing video games and should get a job.

This is a good game. The absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off controls are what make it fun, and rewarding when you finally bust a cap in someones ass. Theres many modes to play, like seriously a lot. All of them are pretty difficult except 2 i can think of. Youll laugh, youll cry, youll say **** this game, then keep playing. Its great when you have 5 minutes to kill and cant get into a full on game in that time. I bought it full price and would do it again.

**UPDATED REVIEW**
On full release some radical changes were made and a lot of quality improvements were made in the time between my review and release. My review still stands for the most part, but they fixed the negatives I had listed. However, a new negative worth mentioning is the teaming here is abundant. Theres no system to report them either. It happens often, but usually it's done by people with no skills so isn't a deal breaker.

****OUTDATED*****EVERYTHING BELOW IS ABOUT THE OLD VERSION

Short Review: Best Battle Royale game at this time. Its free ninety nine and the closest you're going to get to playing SOTF again.so buy it! No long ass waiting around in lobbys, no long ass matches, its Fast, fun, and straight forward.

Longer version:
The game is great in theory, and in action it delivers in most parts.
Where it does not yet deliver are a couple main mechanics(bow fighting and axe fighting-any game where you get hit by something and th eknockback and recoil is so hard that you cant steady yourself to react before getting hit/shot again then thats messed up. Plus you can be juggled with an axe inside houses with no recourse.).
Aside from that the devs have most of it in line, and they actively listen to the community and update/balance frequently.
More of the good side is
-how fast you can get in and play a game and their short durations.
-its genuinely fun most of the time
-hits all the marks for a entertaining game.
-its a game based around streaming in a way so those thirsty twitch-ers will like that part.
-The discord is one of the better discords ive been too as well, and the community is cool to TALK too.

The bad side about the game is
-that it rewards kills too much and rewards spineless/no-intregrity playstyles yet punishes being hit too much(kills get you way too many rewards so a few kills and by the end youre the terminator and other guy propably has maybe half of what you have, and getting hit has stupid overdone recoil and knockback/stun). So most times if you get hit first you're possibly just screwed. I have faith this will be balanced though.
-The other bad thing is not really something within the game so I wont discount the devs for it- It's the players. While fun to talk too, in game you often see the most cowardly and bottom of the human-barrel behaviors. Hiding and shooting from bushes, hiding behind ♥♥♥♥ so yo ucant see them but they can still shoot at you, numerous unintended mechanics that make it impossible to do anything while being killed. When given the chance people will be cheap, will forgo their integrity for a false sense of accomplishment(and have the nerve to say "gg" after their pathetic display of human failure/cowardice). even though it's not the devs fault there ARE ways to counter thiat kind of behavior(tightening the mechanics and systems in key areas as to prevent people from being able to do stuff like that-LoL is a great example of a game that "forces" people to play with integrity. theres no "if you do this just right you can be a cheap ass hurhur" .
Despite the cons, the game is still great(and people that play cheap are everywhere so its not specific to here) and is now at the perfect price to get.

Early Access Review
**This review is tailored for other gamers that dont usually buy games for whatever reason, and/or are picky about games**
I played this game since the beginning of when it was in Early Access a couple years ago, and it is an excellent example of how an EA game should be made. Throughout development they maintained their vision of the game while still getting and listening to feedback on the variables.
With release came the full reveal of the map and plot(only about half was released until then), and having played through every bit of it, every side mission, I can simply say it's an amazing and genuinely unique game.
Heres the breakdown:
Plot: Unique plot unlike any other you see in any genre of games. It's grounded in reality with situations that could potentially happen, given how human nature can be. No character is perfect, and thats by design. Of all the choices they make none are telegraphed as good or bad, leaving the player to use their own moral compass in deciding that. At times you find yourself empathizing for the enemy, and even sympathizing for some of them a bit(well, I did). It does have a bunch of side missions but none of it feels like filler, and they arent just standard fetch quests or normal quests like that. The Ending is satisfying(there's more than one, all are good and fitting for your choices)
Gameplay: Dont let the videos fool you, This game is not a survival game in the normal sense of the word. You are surviving but youre not managing resources too much or building anything. You craft weapons, tools, ammo, upgrades to your backpack, health items, etc. You have a food/water meter but its rarely a factor(and thats a good thing, to me. I hate having to manage my own hunger and some virtual persons too lol) It is not an action game outright either. You do kick some ass and take some names but you could go without it through almost the entire game, if not all of it, if youre sneaky enough. So you decide if it's an action or stealth or survival horror-like game by how you play games. More than action, this game is about exploration and surviving nature, the environment, and the human condition(of others, not yourself). There is a lot of parkour and climbing, A LOT. I Would say it's like mirrors edge in that way but its not, it is it's own beast in that department. All of the systems feel tight and well made, and the UI and game content give you just enough to get you from point A to B but without spoon feeding you, and the plot moves along with it constantly so youre never bored. This is a game I accidentally marathon through for hours because I am always wanting to just see that little bit more. haha Gameplay 10/10
Graphics: Looks great. Indie Gala really outdid themselves with the level design and look of the game that is uniquely Die Young. It doesnt borrow anything visually from anyone, which is nice. It looks like a AAA game made in 2019. 10/10
Audio: Sound effects are great, the music fits the game, The voice acting is solid, especially for the main antagonist whom you meet about halfway through. Daphne(main character) has solid voice acting. I prefer the old voice actor but I dont dislike the final one. when you fall, the bone crunch sound is enough to get to you a little bit lol. The audio for enemy footsteps and said is well done. 10/10
Playabillity: It has multiple endings, and a lot to miss in the first playthrough so you can get a solid 2-3 playthroughs out of it as an average gamer. my first playthrough took about 20 hours. Now, I could maybe speed run through the game in 4 hours tops. For the average person I would say the replay value exceeds the price. 10/10
The abstract:
-I miss some of the things being a bit more difficult but there is a harder difficulty coming post-release.
-Make sure to rest at the travel points for extra plot moments.
-Explore, its worth it.
-Some of the enemy voiceovers are a bit vulgar and repetitive but don't let it dissuade you.(plus theres a reason they are like that)
-It comes with an added game: The Prologue. It is great for background about the setting and the people who inhabit the island. I would play it AFTER the main game though
-Save OFTEN! If you're about to make a risky jump then save! You will die a good amount. Save the frustration. lol

Should you buy it? from a super frugal person, I dont get games a lot. Ill try them out but buying a game, its gotta really be good to be a buy. This is one of them. I think its price is at a justifiable amount even not on sale. Its highlights and parts that make up what id pay for mostly are the gameplay in general and the plot, so the 2 most important parts(in my opinion). Die Young wont change the industry or revolutionize gaming but it is a very strong game that does it's own thing in it's own way. It is everything a game should be, in a time where sadly that is rare. It knows what it is and wanted to be and does that well.
Overall score: 10/10

If you buy any game in 2019, buy this one.

I loved this game so much for the past five years....then they got some new guy in to remake the game from the ground up and it is trash. It is hardly even like Ark, much less like the real SOTF. Now its a dull ripoff of multiple other games that results in a very dull game lacking in the strategic gameplay of how it used to be.

I thought you guys were going to just bring the real SOTF up to date, not erase the good version and replace it with trash. At least bring back some legacy style servers. I will not play this s*** again until it is fixed.

This game is Garbage. Absolute, nothing-redeemable-or-noteworthy-about-it-in-a-positive-way kind of garbage. If the devs parents or any kind of scholarship or student aid paid for these fools to get a degree then they should demand a refund.
For the Devs themselves, 7-11 might be a better fit.
Pros: not a damn thing.
Cons:Everything.
Conclusion: ITs a free game...Of course its free, because otherwise theyd be getting refunded up the ass all day.

The single player side of this game is great, feels like Metal Gear although noticeably light on the cutscenes. Yeah that was intentionaly because people complained about the long cutscenes in MGS4 but they have overdone it because most of the story is given to you via audio tapes. The gameplay itself is fun, although gets repetitive near the end when you literally have to play the same missions over again in a harder diffictulty.
The online FOB-Forward Operating Base aspect is a pure cash grab now. It used to be fun playing it but now its pay to win, as in unlocknig an upgrade for a single gun takes either 10 days or 10$.
I havent played the MGO part of it because the FOB part kinda killed the miniscule faith i had in Konami to not be jack***es.
tl;dr Get it for the single player, thats 10/10.

The gist of the game is you wake up on a beach with nothing and begin to build a house and maybe join a tribe or add others to your tribe, tame dinosaurs, and eventually become Alpha tribe(the top tribe in the server). You'll get every kind of feels along the way. After 2100 hours put in over 2 accounts I'll finally put in my 2 cents. First of all, a lot of these recent negative reviews come from other veteran players and I must call shenanigans because if you put over 500 hours into a game you must be having fun or enjoying it quite a bit. They're crybabies and opprotunists, Ignore them. That said, you will have great times in Ark, and you will have devestating or frustrating times(at least in PVP servers) but it is the nature of the game. When you put so much time into building a virtual home and taming virtual pets(then raising their offspring from babies) then get raided(losing everything including your pets) of course it's going to suck, especially the first couple times. Use these instances though to learn where what you were doing wrong so each time you will succesively grow and be able to prevent this from happening. The positive: The devs update this game all the time, always adding a TON of new content, adjusting old content to be more balanced, optimizations to the game, etc. The game itself is great with many servers to choose from, all with unique rates for resource gathering, taming, and experience gain so you can choose the speed of play that fits you best. The game and its mechanics have so much variety and depth that you'll always find something new to learn or try. Whether you like the idea of building an epic, HUGE structure/base, taming a zoo's worth of dinosaurs, or working with a group in a trribe to overcome obstacles and become the top tribe it's all a good time and each of them is set up to function in very intuitive and custimizable ways. If you like raiding other bases and taking them for all they have, it's a blast. If you don't like raiding and like building a fortress to prevent raiding, it's a blast. If you dont like pvp at all, then you have pve servers where everyone functions as a community, and its a blast. It's not constantly exciting as you do have to gather resources much of the time, but when it all comes together intoyour base it's worth it. Eventually and after some learning, after losing everything a few times you will have that Epic fortress of a base, that zoo of dino's, you're alpha tribe and nobody wants to even try to raid you. For me, this is the only time that I was bored with Ark as there was no longer a danger or threat, I was the danger. I was the one who knocks. Seeing as how I don't raid smaller tribes than myself I didnt have much to do. Then the server wiped and everyone was back at zero. The Negative: Most of the negative moments dont come from the bugs to be honest but from the community. You'll meet some cool people in Ark for sure, but you will encounter far more a**holes and cowards(just like the real world). It's not uncommon to get on a server and have a tiny stone hut and then some big tribe comes and wipes you out for youre tiny amount of resources. Or if they see you coming up in the world they will sometimes wait until you get offline then raid you out of fear that you will take their place. In some servers they have rules against things like this though so it is avoidable. As far as the bugs and glitches go, they are certainly there but it's A)to be expected in a game of this scope on early access and b)Not that big of a deal. It only takes dismounting onto a metal irrigation pipe and glitchdying a couple times before you learn not to dismount near them. The team at Wildcard goes above and beyond all expectations and work around the clock it seems to fix big bugs. They add so much contect too that it is also expected that new bugs will be introduced. If you can not handle these like a mature human being then do not buy it until it's retail release date. Summary: I'd buy this game again, I'd reccomend everyone buy this game. You may either claim to hate it or claim to love it, but you will play the hell out of it. Never tame a stegosaurusP.S. If you meet a female in Ark, its a guy 90% of the time. Dont be fooled.

Im not usually into games with old school(simple) graphics but this one managed to be really good. Likely because it is short and to the point, very little backtraching, and has a good story to move it along.
