Early Access Review
Update: I'm now giving my full review after having played the full game twice, once single player and once with a group of friends. It's lived up to the hype for me, delivering game play that rewards you for being thoughtful and interacting with the world. The developers took the unpopular approach of creating a game by listening to the franchise's biggest fans, and being fans themselves. They made a game that sought to maximize the amount of time a player invests into it by virtue of it being a genuinely great game, with depth and detail. In a time when many big game developers are beholden to fickle shareholders it seems obvious why games are crafted with behavioural science in mind rather than genuine love for the fans and the content. That's why this game was a breath of fresh air. Even with some of the hilarious cinematic bugs that plagued the early access version, and despite the latter half of the game seeming to need a bit of polish, I felt a sense of newstalgia playing this game. It met and exceeded my expectations. This has surpassed BG2 as my favorite RPG of all time, maybe my favorite game of all time. By any measure it is a quality game: combat mechanics, graphics, soundtrack, story, multiplayer, cinematics. Appreciate the studio for making this game and continuing to work on it.

So far I've only played this game as far as it lets you go in of one of the early releases. I've been patiently waiting for the full release ever since. I'm already confident saying this is a great game, but will it be better than BG2? Looking forward to finding out this summer with the full release. The fact that this successor stands a shot at actually giving my favorite RPG a run for its money is testament to this game's greatness.

Disclaimer: I'm not biased in any way on this subject. Please see my other reviews and username for confirmation of the same.

I wasn't on the hype train for this game originally and saw that it didn't have a good launch so decided to wait until it went on sale before I bought it. This game feels polished, like the AAA title it was hyped to be from the start. Looks great, gameplay feels fluid for a shooter. Grab it on sale (I don't think any game is worth a 79.99CAD price) and if you have half a rig to run it and you liked games like Bioshock, Prey, etc you'll enjoy this.

This game makes waiting for BG3 far more tolerable, and also sets a very high bar for BG3 to beat. Was very pleased to hear this studio was developing the sequel to my favorite RPG.

Absolutely epic game, even if Paradox has a very questionable DLC strategy. Just roll it all into one actual full game and charge a higher premium for it. Then reward your fans' loyalty with free content updates now and again like most devs do.

FF7 is one of my favourite games and one of the best RPGs of all time. But there's a reason my username isn't AlrightEverybodyLetsMosey. Thanks for breathing life into a classic.

I rarely watch hockey unless it's the playoffs. I don't play as my city franchise, and yet this game is oddly captivating for someone who never excelled at math or considered themself a stats junkie. If you can't figure out how to add real world players or franchises to this game via third parties then I don't think this game should bear the brunt of your negative review. The developers clearly put a lot of effort into this game and if you have half an imagination allows for the fleshing out of some pretty cool narratives. I can leave this game open in windowed mode and do other things like watch TV shows. The game demands as much attention as you want to give it at any given point in time. The game has some flaws and minor glitches but only one of which I found particularily annoying and hope the devs have been made aware of: if you're in the playoffs and you check a player's bio it sometimes has a spoiler about the end of the series (which is weird that it's pre-determined) in the form of "will be disappointed their team couldn't win the Stanley Cup this year" while the series is still in progress and by all appearances still TBD. Everytime I've seen this message it plays out like clock work - that team loses in the playoff series.I don't think this game is for everyone and the learning curve was pretty steep for myself. It's a pretty addictive and fun game overall, I played the last incarnation of EHM and this one is improved in many ways.Edit: The "will be disappointed their team couldn't win the Stanley Cup this year" glitch just shows for players on the team losing their playoff series, it's not a predetermined outcome. If that team starts leading in the series then the glitch will swap to the losing team.
