"Helldivers 2: A Sudden Shift in Requirements Sparks Backlash"

At launch, Helldivers 2 offered PC players the freedom to bypass PlayStation Network (PSN) account integration, despite a mandatory prompt upon boot-up. However, on May 3, 2024, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced a drastic change: PC users would now be required to sign in with a PSN account, a decision effective immediately for new players and mandated for existing ones by June 4. SIE cited the need to maintain safety and security standards, attributing the delayed implementation to technical challenges.

The announcement triggered widespread criticism, especially considering contradictory statements in Sony's official documentation regarding PSN account necessity for PC gaming. Developer Pilestedt expressed regret over the abrupt policy shift, pledging to regain player trust. Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, sided with the community, urging negative reviews on Steam as a form of protest. Consequently, the game faced significant backlash, with nearly 53% of recent Steam reviews being negative.

In response to the uproar, the game was removed from sale in 177 countries where PSN is unavailable, affecting existing players from those regions. Within just 48 hours of the announcement, Helldivers 2 amassed over 84,000 negative Steam reviews, highlighting the magnitude of discontent among players.

Awesome game. if you like point and click you gonna love this title. Cant wait for episode 3.
I finished the pilot and episode 1 & 2 in about 6 hours, and that was with help here and there online. So you could get more time out of it.

One of the best games ever. Awesome blast from the past.
