108.4 hrs on record (15.5 hrs at review time)
Edit: I don't know why I thought 10 hours was the max for refunds, I think I have returned a game with 8 hours on it before. My mistake. The review still stands.

The game is really gimicky; its attempts to produce difficulty are as follows: expecting one pilot to do the work of 10-20 aircraft. So I must listen to my so called squad chatter on their radios while they are completely incapable of doing anything. Like another reviewer said, the tactics system is gone, so you get to watch your allies fly around and do nothing. They actually do score hits sometimes, but they don't do any damage as far as I can tell.

Tons of drones with better maneuverability than you, which is okay I guess but I wish there was more variety in the enemies I face. Attacking ground targets is extremely fun, however.

Personally, I like the unlock system. It's not too hard to save up the points for stuff. Upgrade modules are cool.

Controls are good; core gameplay is similar to the other games, works great with Steam controller. But because there's no tactics any more, that just means more repetitiveness. (turn in a circle for 30 seconds until you are behind the enemy, fire two missiles, move on to the next enemy.)

Sadly, the only real difficulty encountered is achieved by arbitrary time limits and unrealistic weather issues. (My plane got struck by lightning twenty times in ten minutes! Wow!)

Also, an old guy flying an invincible SU-30 that can break the laws of physics.

I loved Ace Combat 6, it's still one of my favorite games. But I was so frustrated by the above issues I requested a refund after 5 hours of gameplay. I'll go back and finish the campaign now to try to justify the cost to myself.
