I do love this game, and want to give it a thumbs up simply from the time spent with a group of friends wailing on each other.

However, the devs have made some design decisions that have put a hamper on things for me especially, and feel like the game is going in a direction that I dont feel will keep my interest in the game.

When we initially started playing, all magic, items, and swords were available from the start, and it was a blast experimenting with them at first, and then switching on the fly during a match as we got more experienced, just to keep each other on our toes.

With recent changes, it's moved to a level up unlock system. It's not awful, but it's not good, and just makes it feel like most of the gameplay we had already been playing was now time-gated in a way.

Looking at the current test branch, there is now a system where upgrades are now an in-match unlock, which I do not find fun. Some people might, but this frustrates me far more than feels like it gives me something to work towards, and always seems to fall into that trap of strong getting stronger, and weak falling farther and farther behind.

When this game was just deathmatch, with everything available and on the table to use, it was the most fun. The way I see things going, I feel like it's going to just turn into yet another prestiege-unlock fest or worse, and this is something that really counts against the game in my eyes.

Hopefully, things will turn out for the better, and I do somewhat understand the reasons for the dev taking so long to update, but for now, I'm going to have to give this game a thumbs down, unless I see some promise that the problems I with the game are unfounded, or improved.

In short; I love the combat, I really do (magic barrier a bit too strong against everything though), but I dont like where I see things going.
