I think Calcutta is the single best song in the universe, because it contains many hidden messages. At first he was just a normal taxi driver, but after taking the wrong turn and running over a pedastrian, possibly because of some interference that we don't know about, he started having mental issues. Everything seemed fine at first, but he started hearing things that naturally don't exist, like the background beat. Him being in a car driving on roads, might have many meanings, but I think the car is himself, and the road is his life. After being alive for a long time, he started to fall apart, like his car. That's when he started seeing different versions of himself. He tried his best to repair everything he could, but to no avail. As lyrics suggest, he was living a life of poverty, constant hunger and suffering. He tried different methods, such as visiting his relatives, but nothing seemed to work. He hoped that his uncle would be able to help as much as he could, but not even he could do anything at all. Him wanting to be a taxi-man, could mean that he wanted to make friends / seek help with other people that he didn't mention. Him saying he is blind, could translate to being unable to find anything to live for, after abandoning his house. Throwing away parts of his car, means he was willing to throw everything away to achieve his goal of finding a reason to live, but nothing worked. After a while he became desperate, and was willing to even steal to get out of poverty. The dancers outside of his car probably mean he was watching other people have a great time, living happily, even when he couldn't. Nearing the end everything started disappearing, probably meaning he wanted to end it all. Nobody knows what happened to our brave hero from Calcutta, but may he find peace.
