Look, there's a lot to hate about this game if you're not into permadeath baked into your MMO grind. Although niche, there's a lot to enjoy about the recent realm rework and the continuous work happening on updates (you can see a bit of the dev work on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ discord).

Problems do exist when you're in endgame content and you get lag to holy hell, but most of the game is genuinely enjoyable if you're into bullet hells and don't mind repeating the grind. Best if you're hopping in for like an hour or two. You can grind it out for a day but at your own risks.

Monetization is also wack but there's been moves towards more generous drops, in comparison to back then. The fact that its kinda dependent on discord communities for game information and even the new game experience is kinda wack as well.

Still, I think this game fits the niche well and it's well worth a try.

The game genuinely is great with lots of updates rolling down the pipeline. Every now and then there's an update that adds new towers, heroes, maps, or just QOL that cements the effort here. Personally think its my personal staple for the TDS genre now. Lots of freedom in strategies with choices to either go meta and research on towers or (fittingly) go monke mode and slap stuff down and see where it takes you.

Also, to reiterate, monke.

Game makes zombies always a threat even if they're a bunch of slow bozos at first glance. The looting system is fine along with crafting, especially with the promise of Build 42 on the horizon. Love playing this with friends and just planning every detail about raids and base management.

It's honestly rare to find games that offer so much replayability. With triple-A titles being so devoid of content, it really leaves a sour taste sometimes. This game delivers quite the opposite: CONTENT W/ PURPOSE AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE.

Even though Afterbirth+ has gotten somewhat mixed reception, Rebirth + Afterbirth is an amazing game and I can't recommend it enough.

Nice to get it on sale, but even for full price you'll get your money's worth. Cheers.
