Among the people who've played it, it's really not underrated nor overrated. It feels exactly like you expect it to be from your first impression, but also a lot more. The unique and labored artstyle works together with the soundtrack and the culture of the setting to feel like a masterpiece of "comfy." The characters are quite funny though sometimes one-note.

The story definitely shines: it starts off seeming episodic, but perhaps halfway through, the protagonist gets thrown into the conspiracy and intrigue of the French revolution and everything that happened in the game becomes connected. There are plenty of twists and moral quandries. It does multiple endings quite well, largely because they're not just "endings;" the story converges with perhaps an hour left based on your choices during the previous chapter (and it's simple to figure out what you have to do on a replay of the chapter without having to look anything up)

Not everyone would enjoy it. It is a bit short compared to other similar games in its niche/that it's based on, plus, despite this it manages to feel awkwardly slow-paced at several points, and the logical reasoning the game puts the players through isn't usually appropriately challenging.

This is not your pansy sandbox, survival-type scenario where you run around the city collecting things and beating up enemies with a health bar. Turns out it's a much more strategic, trial-and-error tension-releaser of a game that despite its simple mechanics, has increasingly complex levels that can play out in any unpredictable way. I like the fact that it can't just be played like a stealth game, you often need to be fast paced, adaptable above all, and put yourself in situations that test the limits of your reflexes. Not recommended for people frusturated with getting stuck though. Also, the lock-on system is better fit for a real mouse and does not work well with a laptop trackpad, in case that's an issue
