Rather similar to contemporary fire emblem games, but featuring a lot of quality of life features / design decisions. SRPG writing is rarely remarkable, however some moments in Dark Deity stand out, addressing and satirizing tropes present in the genre's writing.

Complaints regarding balancing that I have seen in other reviews, were not observable in my time playing. The presence of life steal makes the issue of squishy units having no sustainability mostly mitigated. Overall, the game is a bit easier than most traditional SRPG's, though it has some unique mechanics which more than make up for the lack of difficulty.

Grind, spam light attacks, watch your dog eat people, gasp as he turns into a bear, kill the grim reaper. get every lord item except for the ones you spec'ed into, discover the bug that gives you infinite inventory space and duplicates your items, and have the game still basically feel the same even with infinite resources.

This game is good in spite of its flaws, which are not numerous, but instead are very singular. This game relies too much on and implements poorly RNG. But, still in spite of that the writing, historical flavour, and replay ability make up for that.

Good game. Decent game. Bad game?

The games intended realism just makes it boring and uniteresting to play. Waiting 5 minutes for an infantry regiment to learn how to use a radio, then another to fire their guns is at best annoying and at worst infuriating. The manual is also not up to date, the UI and features have changed since they last updated it.
