Greatest game of all-time.

You can be a goat. Why not buy this game?

The Game in Five Words: Retro, Indie, Pixels, Zombies, Short.

When I first discovered Organ Trail: Director’s Cut, nothing really jumped out at me. It appeared to be a low-budget point-and-click indie game with bad graphics. Had the game not been on sale, I most likely would not have bought it. However, after I began playing, I realized how wrong I was. I enjoyed this game a lot, but it was quite short. The campaign only takes around two hours to complete. The bonus mode in the extras, along with the endless mode and the replay value make this game worth the money.

Organ Trail: Director’s Cut is heavily text based, so if you are looking for a game with great dialogue, interaction, and a thrilling storyline, this isn’t the game for you. The storyline is simple: Drive across the U.S. in a zombie-infested apocalypse, and don’t die.

Although the graphics at first appear outdated and unrealistic, once you play the game, you realize it is actually very artistic. The creators must have deliberately chosen this art style, and it worked. As I played the game more and more, I liked the graphics more and more. They fit the retro feel of the game. Also fitting with the retro style was the music, which features beeps, boops, and other arcade sounds.

The gameplay itself is fun. As you play, you really want to survive until the end. I played the game all the way until the end in my first sitting. It is not just a point-and-click, although the majority of it is. The controls for shooting are… interesting. You click the target, pull back the mouse towards your player, and then release to shoot. Although these controls may seem annoying at first, you get used to them by the end. One gameplay problem I found is that when driving, your car occasionally keeps going, even when your “w” or “s” keys are released.

Should you get this game? If it is on sale, definitely grab it. If it is not, it depends whether or not you are looking for an indie game, rather than a mainstream $50 game. I personally paid $1 when the game was on sale, and I feel it is certainly worth $5.
