FOR ROCK AND STONE!!!

Ghost Ship Games knocked it out of the park, not only for creating an addicting, rewarding game with an excellent gameplay loop, but continuing to add more and improve the game far beyond what most AAA developers would even consider. I've spent countless hours in the caves of Hoxxes, I've promoted every dwarf and unlocked every weapon. Hell, this is one of the few games I 100%'d the achievements for. Even after all that, I find myself returning to play more. That really says somthing, don't you think?

I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, and at first I completely dismissed this game. However, after reading up on the concept and gameplay, as well as hearing some good things about the PS4 and Xbox beta, I was willing to try the Steam beta and come up with my own opinion.

I'll start by saying this: As much as I wanted to dislike this beta from the start, by the time I put it down I was actually fairly impressed. Granted, I had very low expectations, but the game was fun. The gameplay is straightforward but entertaining, the mechanics are great and honestly, I thought a lot of it worked well. Some of the controls were a bit wonky but after a few minutes I was able to pick it up. The multiplayer lobby being a map of it's own, with practice ranges, lots of space for building test structures and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around instead of just a static screen was a really cool feature that me and my friend enjoyed.

It was when I stopped playing that my opinion changed. I realized that the store page for the full game cleared up some of my questions about the co-op.
Originally posted by http://store.steampowered.com/app/543900/METAL_GEAR_SURVIVE/:
In CO-OP mode, assemble a team of four players to infiltrate and defend areas from hordes of creatures. Place fortifications and defensive weapons strategically to give you an advantage against ever intensifying enemies. Team work and resourcefulness are key in these fast paced co-op missions.

If the co-op mode were a part of the main game, a la Borderlands or Monster Hunter, I would have been sold. Tacking on the co-op as tower defense missions in what is advertised as an open world survival game is a real shame, and it was a make or break for me. It reminded me too much of the FOB's from MGSV. As fun as the beta was with friends, it just doesn't feel the same playing alone. Sadly, this is why I cannot recommend this game. Not because of Kojima, not because of Konami, and certainly not because of the gameplay. It's a lot of fun with friends, but without friends it's repetitive and grindy. If the story is any good I might pick it up on sale.

Bought this game as a joke for a friend and wound up buying one for myself because he loved it so much. Lots of great, low-budget fun!

Early Access Review
"It's not rocket science"
These words have never meant more to me than they do after playing KSP. Granted, it's not the same rocket science as NASA, but it's still pretty damn challenging.
On the outside, the game is simple - you build a rocket using lego-esque parts and try your best not to crash into the ground and brutally murder your little astronauts. Or, do the opposite, and see what ridiculous designs you can make that crash back down into the earth in the most entertaining way possible. It's all up to you, but don't expect the game to hold your hand while doing it.
KSP uses somewhat realistic physics with your ships. Everything about your ship is taken into account as it lifts off its launchpad: The weight of each individual part, the weight of the fuel as it burns up, even the stability of each joint. Expect to watch quite a few youtube videos and read many guides before successfully attaining orbit, let alone landing on the moon or creating a space station.
Kerbal Space Program is loads of fun, whether you're playing with specific goals in mind (i.e. flying into the sun with as many boosters on your ship as your computer can handle), or you just want to mess around and make stupid-looking ships. Even when the ships don't crash and explode, this game is a blast.
