GBVSR REVIEW FOR 2020 OWNERS

Q:
Is the netcode better now that rollback has released?
A:
Overall, yes. However, during queue for matches you CANNOT choose a connectivity quality range nor do you see your opponents connectivity quality before accepting a match. You're rolling the dice every time you accept a match and eventually you wind up playing those same laggy ass matches you did in 2020 but this time you'll have a rollback indicator that displays 10f of rollback and 200 ping :)

Q:
Are the new mechanics fun?
A:
GB was always a pretty simple game with gameplans for most of the cast that anyone could follow, this was one of the things that made the game accessible. On the flipside this also made the game feel one dimensional and stale.

Welp they added a universal mechanic that took away any nuance this game had, 66L. 66L is a forward moving, +2 on block, hit confirmable normal that's typically 8F and stuffs any attempt to play neutral. Cant get in? 66L. Opponent blocking too much? 66L. Havent labbed a good meaty for that knockdown yet? 66L. Poor offense? 66L. Opponent dodging your normals in neutral? Just 66L, you'll recover first anyway. Just did 66L? Do it again.

The other big mechanic change is Bravery points. Basically just a rock paper scissors-like mechanic that requires you to spend Bravery as a currency to participate in and you only have 3 Bravery points per round. As these points deplete you run out defensive options, offensive options, damage/combo extenders, and you take more damage.

So to answer the question, no, the new mechanics are not fun. They enable turning off your brain which isn't my idea of fun.

Q:
Is the game as a whole fun?
A:
Kinda? Its fun in the sense that you can put this game down and pick it up a year later without skipping a beat, but just like GBVS, GBVSR gets really stale really quickly. Game just feels like you're going through the motions rather than actually having fun playing against a player.

Q:
Should you buy this game if you bought GBVS in 2020?
A:
Unless you're going to play the HELL out if it, probably not. Another 50 dollars for a game we bought almost 4 years ago with a little more content feels like robbery. I felt bad for them when they released during the pandemic and couldn't have tournaments or garner hype but not sure packaging the same game up with some changes for 50 dollars was the answer.

As a 2020 owner I rate this game a 5/10, if this were a new game for me id rate it a 7.5/10. I personally don't recommend this game to 2020 owners.

Early Access Review
This game feels like Uncharted 2 Online/The Last of Us Online mixed with MGO influences. I've had a great experience so far besides the horrible queue times. Wish more people would try this game out, it deserves some love.
