Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first: it ain't optimised. The performance with default settings ain't great. That being said, you can and should have a play with the settings, tweak them to your desires and your patience will be rewarded!

This is a base game, but a base game with a heck of a lot of the DLC from Skylines 1 included, as well as a load of features that you used to have to mod in. The good doesn't end there though, the mechanical changes from the first game are great fun, from the skill tree to the XP system, both things that I saw in videos and hated - on playing the game... they work!

The graphics have had a great little boost, the UI is clean, the lane-based road layouts make laying sliproads, motorways and all sorts of wacky intersections a breeze... all this in the vanilla base game remember. The game will use all the cores of your CPU, no more leaving performance on the table (good job really!) and for that you get more realistic everything, even simulation of individual cims.

You need a powerful machine to run the game to it's fullest, but with a little tweaking it will run on reasonably modest hardware and be perfectly playable. Even today it's a great game, and that's without all the promised improvements.
