i kinda dropped the game for now but i think i've played enough to write what i liked and disliked about it.

+ great companions. i've played all dragon age games (haven't finished dao nor da2 but watched a whole playthrough years ago) and there's never been a game where i liked all of my companions. that's not the case with veilguard. okay, some of them have their flaws (taash and bellara *coughs*) but i still liked them nevertheless, flaws and all.
+ the whole reputation/shopping system. okay, it might end up frustrating because it takes a lot of time to builder up your reputation amongst the various "clans" but it's a nice change, you don't get to see this sort of system implemented in a lot of games.
+ the characters resume their talks if they're interrupted by third-party events. it might be nothing, but it's really, really, REALLY rare to see (actually i think that i've only seen that in ratchet and clank: rift apart).
+ the side quests might start a little boring but some of them are quite nice! i had more fun playing those side quests than the story quests tbf.
+ playing as mage is so good! mage is so much fun! a bit boring in early levels if you ask me, but once you get your own specialization it's really fun to play and not as easy as you might think.

- horrible writing. if you play dragon age for its world-building, its lore, its politics and intrigues, you'll end up VERY disappointed by the game. it actually feels like the scenario was taken from a wattpad story. disappointing. i'm pretty much playing for the characters and their unique stories, i'm not even interested in the main story, so that's saying a lot.
- the pacing is weird af.
- the faces are... not bad but they look like they were taking out of a disney/dreamworks movie... they don't look like video game faces at all. and i won't even mention the animations, but that's a bioware thing i'd say and while it never bothered me in previous game, it... kinda did here. maybe that's because of the engine but it never bothered me that much when playing me:a nor dai.
- romances. whether it's dragon age or mass effect, bioware have always made romance a pivotal point in their games. here? they're non-existent, you can't ask your partner to kiss/hug or even engage in conversations as you wish contrary to their previous games. and the romance don't make sense (i'm a lucanis girl and let me tell you.... i was VERY, VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED). also, i don't really like the fact that all characters are bi. i don't have anything against lgbt people, ON THE CONTRARY. but making characters either straight, bi or gay adds to their personalities. having them all bi by default, it's.... not cool. remember all those talks about dorian fighting his father in dai? it showed the depth of his personality. with all that gone, the result is just... blend and that's a shame.
- the jumps are clunky af. i don't mind "platform" (if we can call them that...) sequences but only when the tools we're given work correctly. here? the jumps are random. also, this is a hot take but i really hate when devs make the actions realistic. we don't need a 3-seconds pause when my character stops running... make it quick, idk.
- not many enemies. and their patterns is almost always the same, so the fights get really boring at some point.
- companions are just that, companions. they don't have their own hp bar, we can't control them unlike previous entries of the series. their only use is using their skills, so consider them as side skills and not characters of their own.
- please, don't call me transphobe or anything in the likes of it, because that's really not the kind of person i am but i don't know how to feel about taash. they're fighting a fight that i don't think makes any sense nor has its place in a fantasy game taking place in a fantasy/medieval world. the way it was handled was like "hey look at that non-binary character! look, there's a non-binary character in our game! that non-binary character fight for their rights", i don't think it's fair for lgbt people nor representation overall.

+ amazing story and depth of characters that i rarely get to see in video games. james sunderland is a very complex and interesting character, i really liked him.
+ minimalist yet enjoyable gameplay, perfectly suited for the survival horror genre
+ the atmosphere is CRAZY. from the music to the sounds, it's splendid, it's everything i expect from a survival horror
+ it took me 15 hrs to finish it, pretty decent when you know survival horrors usually take 10-ish hrs to complete.
+ the exploration isn't bothersome, it's always nice to find new items that help you understand the setting

- i don't know if it's my computer that isn't good enough for the game but there were lots of stuttering at times (especially near the end)
- it can get quite repetitive

i used to say that ffvii rebirth was my goty, little did i know that the true goty was hiding behind a licence i knew almost nothing about. well done, bloober team. well done. i wouldn't mind getting a sh1/sh3/sh4 remake if it's the same :D

i'm usually not into gacha games but my love for ffvii apparently knows no bounds. the game is actually pretty good if you turn a blind eye to the (really) expensive pulls to get (really good) skins.
i'm so happy we finally get to see sephiroth's story from his younger days :D

The good
  • Fun when you play with friends
  • Many iconic killers to play (okay truth be told, I've only played the Trickster so far, but each killer seem to have a different gameplay). Most original killers are also interesting and have a cool design.
  • There are several ways to play the game depending on the items (and add-ons) you carry
  • Leon Scott Kennedy is there, that's a good game lads
  • Even though there are a lot of DLC (they're mostly sold at a rather decent price), the game's generous in terms of characters, killers and outfits.

The bad
  • TERRIBLE communication system. It's utter garbage. This game is supposed to be cooperative yet you can't talk to your allies? Whose idea was it?
  • Killers who camp around hooks will ruin your game
  • It can get a little repetitive over time
  • Maybe that's me being a bad Killer (and it probably is, I don't know) but I feel like there's a balance problem between the killer and the survivors. Survivors have a great advantage over the killer.
  • The current system push people to buy stuff. Be ready for countless hours of farming if you ever want to buy even ONE outfit that needs +21k iridescent shards. I currently have 48hrs of playtime, I just reached 7k. I won't ever see the end of it.

Overall, this isn't a game I have ever expected to enjoy that much. I'm not one to play many online/PvP games and I don't even like horror/slashers so never in my life, I would have even bothered to look into this game. But things happen and now I'm obsessed with it. The game is flawed but no game is perfect and I have lots of fun when I play so what else should I need to like it?

Je le finis pour la 8549825e fois (ça prouve l'amour que j'ai pour cette licence), mais c'est la première fois que je le termine sur PC.

+++
