Love the game overall but as of writing this review there are too many flaws for a positive review.

PROS:
- Nice viking themed survival game.
- lots off small or different to other survival games things.

CONS:

1. Valheim is NOT A 3D GAME. Yes, the graphics are 3D and there's even a mod to get VR working but the sound is at most stereo (with virtual surround sound). I'm used to real surround sound in 3D games for >20 years and this is just not acceptable.
Surround sound in 3D games has been a thing for ages and Unity (engine behind/below Valheim) has integrated support for surround sound so why in Pong's name do modern titles, even in early access, don't support it?
It's a major downside for players accustomed to surround sound (CS since I dunno? 2001? Minecraft, most shooters since then and probably before [1]).
AFAIK it's even quite easy to enable 3D sound in Unity and all the necessary data (sounds, 3D position, orientation, ...) is already there[2].
@All surround sound setup owners: please upvote this review and make your request known [3]!

2. Micro Management. You are forced to do everything for every single thing individually.
Want to plant crops? You better click once per plant/seed (hundreds of times) and shame on you if you place it too close to anything else...
Harvesting the crops is just as tedious.
Cooking soups? Forget about filling more then one soup plate at a time. The big pot over the fireplace can't handle anymore.

3. Build/plant/hoe system. You can't open doors or chests while handling any of those tools (hammer, cultivator, hoe) even tho the use-key isn't used by them. Why?

4. You can't teleport ores or metal bars but tools weapons and armor made with those metals. And you can teleport surling cores and dwarf eyes which are required to build portals. It would make much more sense that such portals couldn't transport their own core materials instead of the metal inconsistencies.

5. The admittedly small team behind Valheim does not and doesn't plan to support mods[web.archive.org].
Why? Most of my complaints above and all the smaller ones not mentioned here are already fixable with mods.


Will update this review again when they finally add the basic requirement(!) of surround sound in a 3D shooter game configurable via GUI.

It's my first open world survival game (unless you count Minecraft) and overall I actually like it a lot.

But because of
- all the bugs and glitches,
- gamebraking patches/updates,
- no Linux server
- BattleEye
- no/unsupported offline play
and so on I can't really recommend it.

Would give a neutral vote if possible...

Just awesome. Got it ~8 years ago and just played with a few friends -> endless fun.

Simple basic rules: Easy to learn hard to master.

If "4A Games" / "Deep Silver" doesn't want to pay Valve the 30% just ask more for "Metro Exodus" here OR offer it for less on Epics pile of s*** Store.
