I'll get this out of the way right off the hop: the performance leaves a lot to be desired, even on very high end hardware. Though it seems like a Borderlands issue and more a Unreal Engine 5 issue imo. I'm on a 4090/14700K/48GB DDR5/Nvme SSD and on 1440p/Ultra with Frame Gen and DLSS Quality I get about 140FPS on average.

That said, the game is fantastic. Visually the world is beautiful and filled with things to do and explore. I still prefer the zones of previous Borderlands games though. The open world kind of screws with the flow of the narrative and the pacing imo.

Gameplay wise, it's the best the series has ever felt. With new traversal additions such as double jumping, gliding, dashing, etc. making navigation feel fast and smooth, to new additions like the medkit items making combat that much better. Legendary drops are actually rare again which is a welcome change from 3. So far I've found 2 Legendary weapons (one from a vendor item of the day and the other from accidentally opening the gold chest)

The overall story I can't speak to much as I haven't even come close to finishing the game, but the writing and dialogue is a lot more consistent than BL3 was and the humour is a bit better. I don't really find the villain interesting just yet, but I'm also still very early in the game. All in all, it's not as strong as BL2 in the story/writing department, but it's much better than 3 and the gameplay is the best of the series.

Highly recommended game despite the performance (Unreal Engine 5 sucks!) issues.
