In year 3, I was a top student. I got 100% on every test. I never even had to take a real spelling test because I scored 100% on every spelling PRE-test we ever had. At the time, I was also an avid Pokémon fan. I had the limited edition yellow version GameBoy and also had amassed hundreds of Pokémon cards. One week, we were given our spelling pre-test and one of the words our teacher called out was “pigeon.” Subconsciously I thought of Pidgey/Pidgeotto/Pidgeot and I wrote down, “pidgeon.” That was the first and only time I ever missed a word on a spelling test. And since that day, I have never allowed myself to trust or love again
