Anonymous;Code Review (Spoiler Alert)!

Have you ever waited years for a game, anime, manga, or movie to finally release after countless delays? Ever wondered, "Will it be worth the wait?" Well, A;C is one of the answers to that question. First announced in 2015 and touted as the culmination of the SciADV series, it faced delay after delay, finally achieving a global release in September 2023. So, you might be asking, "Is A;C worth the hype?" With full confidence, I would say YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! "Wait, how come?" Alright, tighten those eye bags, and don’t fall asleep while reading my rant, okay?

First, let me briefly explain what A;C is. A;C is the latest entry in the Science Adventure series. "Huh? What's Science Adventure?" Science Adventure, or SciADV, is a series of interconnected sci-fi stories created by Chiyomaru and co. You’ve heard of Steins;Gate, often hailed as one of the greatest anime of all time? Well, S;G is one of the entries in the SciADV series, so S;G and A;C are linked. "Oh, I see. So, what’s A;C about then?"

A;C is set a year after the world experienced the "Sad Morning" incident—a massive catastrophe caused by the malfunction of military satellites (SA4D) that attacked major cities, claiming millions of lives.

The main character is Pollon Takaoka, a young hacker who, alongside his friend Cross Yumikawa, forms a team called "Nakano Symphonies," with the motto "never ignore someone in need."

The story kicks off when Pollon gains the ability to save and load his actions, much like in a video game, during a mission to rescue Momo Aizaki from military forces. From there, we follow—and directly assist—Pollon in his adventure, using his newfound powers to help those in need or even save the world.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the review, starting with point one:

1. Story
In short, A;C can be described in two words: fast-paced and insane. "How so?" A;C skips the slow-paced slice-of-life (SoL) segments seen in its predecessors like S;G. In S;G, the early part of the story delves into SoL moments to build emotional connections with Okabe and the others, which some people find dull or sleep-inducing. But in A;C, this is skipped entirely—we’re thrown straight into an action-packed chase sequence with Pollon and Momo pursued by military forces.

A;C brilliantly combines sci-fi and conspiracy elements, just like its predecessors. From the creation of quantum computers capable of simulating entire worlds to secret organizations controlling the Vatican, everything flows seamlessly like a river. You’ll also experience emotional highs and lows, akin to a rollercoaster, while reading A;C.

2. Characters
A;C captures attention with its cast of characters, especially the MC and the heroine. Pollon stands out as a justice-driven character, while Momo is determined to save the world. Early on, their chemistry feels off—Momo refuses Pollon's help due to her trauma—but after facing struggles together, OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD THEIR CHEMISTRY IS OFF THE CHARTS! They trust each other, fight together, and uplift one another. Isn’t that the ultimate couple goal?

And what about the supporting cast? They also shine. Cross, ever-loyal to Pollon, Wind, reminiscent of Daru in his obsession with fictional women, Asuma, the genius brat with an attitude, Tengen, with his extensive network of connections—the list goes on. Although their screen time is limited (due to the lack of SoL moments), it’s enough to make me feel attached to these characters.

3. Visuals
Oh, don’t even ask—this is one of the highest production value VNs out there. From the use of Live2D sprites that make the characters feel alive, to manga-style panels during action scenes and scientific explanations, and even particle effects like dust, rain, and snow—it’s all stunning (though it does cause some lag).

4. Gameplay
A;C integrates the Save & Load mechanic into its narrative. This is incredibly unique, as we, the players (a.k.a. Anonymous), become an actual character within the story. We are tasked with guiding Pollon to use his Save & Load powers to find the correct path toward the True Ending. The story structure is linear, featuring one common ending, one true ending, and 19 bad endings. Personally, I prefer this approach over adding extra routes that often feel like they’re just there for “fanservice.”

5. Voice & Music
Surprisingly, A;C includes an English dub! It’s rare for VNs to offer this, and the results exceeded my expectations—I even finished A;C with the English dub. Max Mittelman as Pollon truly nailed the confident and bold nature of the character, with an impressive vocal range to match. Other voice actors, such as Anairis Quiñones as Momo and Yung-I Chang as Cross, also delivered exceptional performances. I was shocked at how the English VAs matched the quality of the Japanese seiyuu.

And what about the music? Oh, it’s phenomenal, as expected. Sir Takeshi ♥♥♥ composed the OSTs that perfectly complement the atmosphere and mood of A;C’s story. My favorite is ACCELERATOR—its chorus includes the phrase "その目、だれの目?" The opening song GAME OVER by Kanako Ito is also an absolute banger and guaranteed to stick in your head.

6. Conclusion
A;C is a strong contender for the best VN I’ve ever read. Hopefully, with this release, SciADV continues to consistently deliver mainline entries. Please, Chiyomaru, no more delays. Well, time to wait for the S;G reboot 🤡.

I recently discover the anime version of Steins;Gate and the anime is one of the best anime i've ever watch. When I know the anime is adaptation from VN, I bought the steam version when on sale. When finish the VN, It's actually much better than anime version. The reasons are we can hear Okabe monologue to understand his character more, multiple endings that weren't shown on the anime version, and the explanation about how their time machine can work make us understand more than the anime version. 10/10
