About 10 minutes into the campaign, I got booted out, game closed with the error message "Disconnected from Steam" I'm writing this the very second after the game crashed, and thus Steam is very much still active and connected to the internet on my PC.

What the ♥♥♥♥ kind of era do we live in where SP games you purchase can't be played properly? ♥♥♥♥ your ♥♥♥♥. 70 bucks what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke.
