There are a lot of reasons to not play this game but at the end of the day the core gameplay is very fun

Like a lot of the reviews already stated, this game makes a fantastic first impression but it quickly falls off a cliff. I was shocked to see that I didn't even play the game for 3 hours even tough it sure felt like a long time

An amazing game that is held back by some annoying features

This review will sound very negative but that's because I really, really like this game and I want it to do well. The artstyle is charming, the cutscenes are absolutely stunning, while also being hilarious and the gameplay loop is incredibly fun for quite a while. But In my opinion some strange design decisions keep it from being one of the greats.

For the first 10 hours I was absolutely hooked and I couldn't stop playing. But after over 20 hours it's unfortunatly starting to get tedious. After a while the exploration becomes a bit of a slog which is probably not great for a game based around exploration. The game stops you from exploring for very random and artificial reasons like finding someone that has gotten lost or you have to wait a day for somebody to build some kind of gadget in order to lift freaking rocks. I want to go deeper and see what comes next but being stopped by all of these artificial roadblocks really keeps me from getting excited about the next region.

I do really enjoy the management aspect of the game and in the beginning it's incredibly fun but after a while it gets a bit tedious to collect the ingredients. To me the fun part of the management is when the restaurant actually opens. I wish that instead of spending a bunch of time doing boring task in order to get the required ingredients, the game would make the actual opening hours of the restaurant more challenging.

It's really cool that there are so many kinds of fish but it's kind of a bummer that at any point in time it feels like there are only like 5-10 fish that are worth going after. But at some point it turns out you need a specific ressource from a useless fish to upgrade a weapon so you need to catch dozens of it. Also it doesn't help that some of the harpoon's "quick time events" that you have to do for larger fish are not exactly enjoyable, especially if you have to do them over and over again. I'm all here for some button-mashing but I don't care if the poison harpoon is good or bad, I'm not gonna violently throw my mouse in circles.

Maybe I didn't pay attantion but I feel like some thing could be explained better. For example: For the first couple of evenings my cooks at some point stopped making food and I didn't realize that it's because of the wasabi. I don't think it was mantioned but even if it was: the indicator for the amount of available wasabi is so tiny and on the edge of the screen they could really have added some kind of prompt to alert you that the wasabi has run out. Also apparantly the interior has an impact on your results aswell? Why doesn't the game tell me that?

I really enjoy the switch of exploring and managing the restaurant. I don't remeber if this happened more than once but one time I explored for a quite a while. I was really looking forward to sell some of the new fish I cought and reap the rewards of my hard labour, only for the restaurant part to not happen that evening because there was some very boring exposition about one of the characters (although it was beautifully animated) and I was genuinely disappointed. I know that I could technically just skip the day but that just feels wrong and also there might be a timed quest that keeps me from doing it.

Again, I adore this game and I highly recommend picking it up if you're looking for a chill singleplayer experience. I really want this game to do well but after some time it becomes too tedious for me.
