Solid metroidvania with great movement and shallow yet satisfying combat. The upgrade system is mostly random, as in you have to choose between three randomised upgrades from a large pool every time, but you get enough of them that you'll have all unique upgrades and a solid amount of damage/ammo/currency upgrades without any trouble.

Difficulty is reasonable as long as you're playing on Hard, which gives regular enemies more health and bosses extra moves. Anything below will definitely feel very trivial, especially towards the end once you have so many different damage upgrades.

Story and characters are extremely simple, but the world itself is quite unique, and uniting the different islands offers a great excuse for all the backtracking elements and exploration you'll end up doing.

It's pretty short though, took me 7 hours to 100% which included a lot of getting lost and running around in the early game.

But despite its shortcomings, it was a very fun game; exploring feels great once you get a couple movement upgrades and the music + visuals really heightened the experience.

All in all, I'll give it an 8/10, really recommend it if you're looking for something to just relax and binge in a weekend.

- Wonderful visuals and art, the pixel art here is seriously one of the cleanest, most fluid and expressive I've
ever seen.

- Forgettable soundtrack, played for 30 hours and I can only remember 3 or 4 songs that played on every
single cutscene and combat encounter.

- Infuriating combat where enemies jump towards you constantly yet there's no dodge option and can only
run at a determined speed, exacerbated when a bunch of enemies spawn in a small arena and you
constantly take damage while they jump in and out of your attack range.

- Aimless story focused mainly on fetch quests and talking to various NPCs. Has an interesting hook during
the first 2 chapters, but does nothing with it and instead spends the next 10 hours setting up plot threads
and character arcs that at best are forgotten by the next chapter, and at worst actively harm the narrative's
coherence. I was forcing myself to finish it to see if at least the ending would make up for some of these
issues, but it does such a terrible job at making you care about these characters that I can't even be
bothered to finish the last chapter to see how it ends.

Buy it at your own discretion or if you want to support any future projects from these devs, but you'll probably get more enjoyment out of it by watching someone else play through it.
